Boden (sorry) why don't they do a proper catalogue any more?

In the olden days you got a thick catalogue at least three times a year and I'd spot at least a couple of things i liked. Now I get about 10 pages of unwearable stuff. I know Johnnie thought the catalogue was too expensive but I don't want to trawl through the website on the off chance of seeing something nice, I want the catalogue to do the work for me. Have I just been removed from the fat catalogue list or is it a Covid victim? I ask because Boden is bombarding me with vouchers and discounts but I am not prepared to do the digging required to use them.

Because 💰and 🌏

It’s not hard to use the website, and you set filters.

dreamingofsun · 22/09/2022 09:36

hasnt jonnie decided to ditch us older customers (because we didnt follow fashion and buy enough) and focus on youngsters? I guess they prefer online to catalogues and of course its cheaper. Its unwearable because its aimed at the young, so a full catalogue wont help as it will just be more pages of disappointing clothes. U need to shop elsewhere as i have for several years

I used to enjoy looking through the catalogue.
BUT it's hardly environmentally sound to produce them & post them 4 x / year.
I dont' like the website much so would defo buy less than from a catalogue tho.

VanCleefArpels · 22/09/2022 12:39

You can see the clothes on actual people on Instagram - just search hashtag Boden

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 22/09/2022 13:56

As I thought - i was wondering if I'd been dropped from the big catalogue list but it seems there isn't one. I see the reasoning for no catalogues and haven't bought anything nice in Boden for years, it's just their constant £10 off and big discounts making me wonder if I was missing something. Off I go elsewhere (as I had already)

Boden seem to have decided that women aged 35-60 are no longer welcome on their demographic. They are making things that they think are more 'edgy' but I think they are mostly hideous. Everything with awful garish prints, ruffles, huge collars horrible puff sleeves. The lovely tailoring, nice fabrics, plain but bright dresses and non fussy cashmere and cotton knits all gone. I predict they will go belly up without middle aged customers.

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2022 00:08

I agree with everything you say @DoodlesMam They've almost completely lost me as a customer now.

Pumpupthejampumpitup · 20/11/2022 00:10

Yes. Boden have lost me too in the last 2-3 years.

AnnieSnap · 20/11/2022 00:55

@DoodlesMam not sure it’s an age thing. I’m 63, I like edgy and I love a puffed sleeve (ruffles and big collars not so much, but then they are not edgy). Lots of women in their 60s enjoy fashion and are not great fans of tailored clothing. So it’s not age, it’s just different style.

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 20/11/2022 19:01

I love edgy - but Boden is failing at thatvAND at reliable basics too. Never see anything I want from there any more

I had forgotten about that! I remember they’d name the models and write a bit about them such as country of origin and favourite city or food.

I used to really like all that. I know it was a bit contrived but is made it a bit more interesting! I remember once, in the children's catalogue, one of the models was called Boden and they put it brackets 'yes, really' or similar.

The quality is not what it was. I've sent back everything I've ordered over the last few years. I feel like I spend at least half of my shopping time checking what things are made of these days.

DoodlesMam · 21/11/2022 00:17

Its ok to have some edgy things but when your demographic is not edgy that's probably a poor business choice. If I want to look a bit more street I go to ASOS, or Saint Sofia or All Saints. Boden is for more conservative wth a small C clothing... Wardrobe stalwarts.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/11/2022 01:21

Boden still have some good bits as I like your green merino cardi @AnnieSnap

But over the last couple of years imo Boden has gone early 21st Century Per Una with a touch of the Joules forever in the sales stuff whilst failing miserably to emulate Sezanne/Anthropologie/Nobody's Child/Whistles/Bjauken

M&S have recently upped their game & are miles better than Boden.

And If I want edgy well I certainly don't go to Boden like @DoodlesMam said

I really miss the decent catalogues as well. I loved looking at them at least 5 times or so and choosing what I was going to order. I buy a lot online but looking at a catalogue is relaxing and enjoyable, whereas searching for things online is boring - staring at a screen yet again.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/11/2022 08:32

I really don't miss catalogues and hope that the increased cost of paper will finally put an end to them. I'm sick of being bombarded by catalogues several times a year from companies that I bought one jumper from five years ago.

Woolovers, Lakeland and Kettlewell Colours, I'm looking at you.

You’ve nailed it - I look at screens all day, the catalogue made it fun and gave me ideas for things I’d never have suspected! If you don’t want a catalogue you can unsubscribe

There’s an option on their website to request a catalogue.

chikp · 27/11/2022 20:20

Because their clothes are so strange it would be too much in one publication

ForeverbyJudyBlume · 28/11/2022 22:35

Yes but it’s not the old style bumper catalogue. It’s all arty and weird now. Think I am just very old!
