What style of jacket with this dress?

I am wearing this dress with dark wine coloured ankle boots for a graduation at the end of october. I’m totally stuck as to what style/length of jacket to wear with it.

Something warm and waterproof if it’s end of October?

Are you the one graduating? If so, you won’t want to wear a Jacket under the graduation outfit gown and hood.

You’ll also need some safety pins to attach the hood part to your dress at the shoulders to save it riding up and strangling you round the neck.

It’s my sons graduation so I’m thinking it will need to be a bit formal, thanks

a smart jacket picking out one of the colours would work or a very nice cardigan. definately not a denim jacket as thats much too informal. Or a smart mack might work, especially if its damp. you could take it off for any photos if you wanted.

A coat would look much more elegant with the dress than a jacket I think - and less business like?

A long navy coat? Or a long trench? I think you need something long. A jacket would be too informal
