I need to buy some new bits for A/W - what will make me look current?

Haven’t got loads to spend but need a few things to update my wardrobe. I’m short, not especially thin and dress quite casually, maybe slightly edgy if that doesn’t sound too pretentious.

Stomper boots and an oversized jumper or cardigan?

Love the idea of stomper boots, I got some DM style ones last year and cant wait to wear them again.

Those are fine, but a bit on the "safe" side. I'd go for a more rugged sole, and maybe a different colour, if I wanted something to look current.

Same as PP - Wider leg jeans, big cardigans, chunky boots & dresses with thick tights.

Also a tailored velvet jacket goes with pretty much everything, I have one in black and one in dark purple and basically live in them in autumn.

But what do you wear them with if you're not wearing skinnies?

Or the other side of the coin, what shoes do you wear if you're not wearing skinnies, especially if you're not wearing trainers?

I'd like a coloured jacket for a 'smart casual' work outfit when presenting, a sort of Angela Merkel look of black trousers and top, with a coloured jacket over, but haven't found anything, not that I've looked very hard.

(I don't care if it's current or otherwise appropriate, it's easy and something that feels like 'me')

I’ve updated my autumn wardrobe with a couple of pairs of cropped wide leg jeans (£3 each on Vinted). Cropped jumpers to tuck in to high waisted trousers. Wool blazer from & Other Stories
New Balance 327s in workwear cream
Cropped ankle boots from Dune
Couple of bodysuits and long sleeve slim T-shirts from New Look and Zara in rust, dark green and purple to go with the wide leg jeans.

That should absolutely do me now until summer!

Buy a trench coat if you don’t have one - can’t believe I’m writing this, but they are now ‘in’. You will get several years out of them as they are only back in for about a year.

I love the idea of wider jeans but I’ve got short stubby legs and I can’t imagine what footwear would look good with them - the trainers and chunky boots mentioned would be my style but I’m not sure they’d be a great look with wide jeans on me.

I really fancy a big oversized cardi though.

I'm 5ft alternative-ish n fat I just roll the jeans up if straight or sew shorter if flares n always wear chunky platform boots

I love preppy autumn styles too tho!! I'm not hugely current bar the wide legs tbh
