what makes your undereye bags worse?

I have undereye bags which are pretty noticeable. I wasn't too bothered but lately am getting tired of (well-meaning..) colleagues saying things like :
"You look awful!"

"You look so tired!"

"Are you OK??"

"Good morning! .... Oh dear!" (after one glance at my face)

So I decided to buy the Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer kit in a desperate attempt to do something about my awful undereye bags.

I decided to do the one undereye area only to see the contrast ... but was gutted to find it only made it much worse. Not sure if it was the wrong technique or I put on too much . I followed a Youtube video where the bags magically vanished 😢

So, anyway, ramble over. I was wondering what makes your undereye bags worse?

Dehydration, but I don't do make up as I wear glasses that cover them.

I like the idea of wearing glasses. I have some very weak lenses and they are great for hiding the bags when i’m tired!

Alcohol for me. Also trying to conceal them seems to make them worse but that may be because I’m more focused on them

I use glasses to cover mine too, and wear mascara (no other eye makeup) as my eyelashes are very fair and darkening them seems to distract people from the eye bags a bit. If I wear no glasses or no mascara people ask how I am and tell me I look tired all.the.time.

I assume it's coming from a place of concern but it's not a great way to start the working day tbh.

I'm seriously considering tear trough filler.
I'm older and bought some l'oreal golden age rosy radiant cream. It does make a bit of difference.

Alcohol makes mine worse. I just bought Rimmel Multi Tasker which seems quite good for under eyes - it's not too thick.

Alcohol and dehydration makes them much worse. A real benefit towards the end of dry January is the reduction (but nowhere near elimination) of my eye bags. I read an interview with Felicity Kendall who called them "wine bags" - too true!

@UnconscionableSnacking
I know. People might mean well, but I just wish they’d stop! 😟

If you keep staring at them in the mirror they look worse. They are much improved if you stop listening to people who see nothing wrong with criticising you

anewbook · 17/09/2022 20:35

@Cognacsoft I'll look into the L'Oreal cream, thanks! and Rimmel Multi Tasker @CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory

@Defiantlynot41 "wine bags"
Perhaps that will make me think twice about the second/third glass..
Although in my case they would definitely be "beer bags" 😂😂

I'm anaemic and the week after my period my eye bags are terrible and look like I have two black eyes . I googled it and apparently it can be a thing with low iron.

It’s funny you say this. The only time my eye bags have disappeared, and the darkness on the inner corners, was after I had to have an emergency blood transfusion.

I hadn’t looked in the mirror for a couple of days in hospital and looked just before I was discharged to prepare myself for the state I was in. Couldn’t believe how fresh faced I looked and zero darkness around my eyes.
