‘Dressy’ wedding guest outfit on a budget

I’ve been invited to a wedding with a ‘dressy!’ dress code this autumn. I’m not into fascinators or sparkle, and I can’t cope with extremely high heels, but I’d like a nice midi dress, and I’d really rather not pay a fortune (or very much at all). Has anyone seen anything lovely that won’t break the bank? I’m average height, since 10/12, small boobs… Thank you for any help!

And I should add that I’m a day guest so needs to be daytime/church appropriate.

Vinted?

Search by brand, filter for new and very good condition and size and / or colour ?

Hire, a la Carrie Johnson?

Rach247 · 16/09/2022 21:28

Both excellent suggestions! I’ll have a look at hiring something.

Is £59.99 too much? This is lovely from Mango. I don’t have the boobs for spaghetti straps and I’m always jealous of people who can wear them. (Maybe a shawl or cardigan for the church part, especially given the open back)

If you can bear the environmental guilt check out Shein. Tons on there - all sorts of styles and colours. I've ordered something from there for a short notice wedding and am pleased with style and fit etc. I'm on mat leave atm so couldn't afford more than £25 for a dress and paid £20 for a midi dress.

DucklingDaisy · 16/09/2022 21:37

Sorry, I think this should be the link to the actual dress.

DucklingDaisy · 16/09/2022 21:37

Ffs I give up, it’s there somewhere if you scroll through.

Rach247 · 16/09/2022 21:50

@DucklingDaisy thank you, I do like the shape, although slightly put off by the idea of having to find a cardigan that goes. I’m seeking an easy solution!

@Downandout01 i would definitely consider it, do they deliver quickly then? I do find Shein a bit overwhelming, there’s just so much stuff. I’m also on mat leave and I think that’s the reason for my lack of enthusiasm about getting dressed up - too tired, too many biscuits!

@rach I am in exact same position. Too tired, too many biscuits!! Yes delivery was fast. I ordered 2 dresses- same style diff colours. First one arrived with 3 days. Second came a few days after that. Need to return one and haven't looked into return process but hoping it isn't too awful....
Website was quite overwhelming but as you know length dress you want thats good starting point and I would just type midi dress into search bar.

Vinted for sure. So much only there. Dresses from £1 pre loved. You can filter well in to occasion wear, by length, colour size etc.

Thanks all - just found an ASOS design dress I’d previously admired at full price for £10 on Vinted! It’s not massively ‘dressy’ but I like it. I’ve never really used Vinted much before, it’s so much cheaper than eBay. Great advice, thanks!

That’s brilliant! I’m a huge Vinted fan. Have made money selling stuff I would usually give to charity too. If you sell cheap and take good pictures things sell.
