Do you like my new coat and how should I style it?

Got this 2nd hand coat which was a steal and I love it! Wool and alpaca.

I'm trying to put together a basic autumn/winter wardrobe on a really really tight budget. Any ideas for some looks that will work well with this coat that I can mix and match?

Am going to check out charity shops today

I love it! I have one very similar (also second hand) and normally wear it with a chunky knitted scarf and a brooch, but then I do like a bauble or two 😊

I don't think there are many things that don't go with these coats, and the only thing I'm always careful of is skirt length so I don't have an odd bit of dress hanging down a few inches below it. Everything else from jeans to mini dresses is fine.

LobeliaBaggins · 16/09/2022 08:26

I love it. So elegant. Think it will go with anything but esp well with straight dark jeans and boots?

ladygindiva · 16/09/2022 08:39

I'm picturing it with black leggings / tights / skinnies and chunky black boots and a neutral coloured long jumper / jumper minidress underneath. It's a gorgeous coat

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 16/09/2022 08:45

Ooh you lucky thing. The texture, side splits and yellow lining ❤️❤️❤️

I'd wear that.

RosieRoww · 16/09/2022 08:46

Lovely!

hobbledyhoy · 16/09/2022 08:47

Beautiful 😍

Dark navy jeans, brown ankle boots and maybe a nice fine knit natural/oatmeal jumper and a brown cross body bag?

DameHelena · 16/09/2022 08:48

You could go very 70s with a short skirt/dress, bright coloured polo-neck and knee boots.

Or dark trousers, slightly loose and rolled up, with ankle boots or chunky trainers, and a sweatshirt. Again, Id' go for a bright/bold colour; you can wear anything with that colour coat really.

CoatyWonder · 16/09/2022 08:52

Thank you everyone! I absolutely love it too, its Cacharel and I got it for €60 on Vinted. Best thing is I had a clear image of it in my head and saw it quite literally within the first 3 min of looking!

You're probably right and I can wear it with most anything but good point @SocksAndTheCity re hem lengths. I dont really wear dresses but with these side splits I'm actually thinking I'd quite like to experiment with some long slightly folkish dresses this autumn. I'm also craving an oversized/mans white shirt. Should be able to find both those things at charity shops.

I have some kind of folky heeled brown boots but otherwise for everyday wear I only have a pair of black biker boots. I'd quite like to find some chunky Derbys to go with this coat. And definitely a scarf that's more interesting than my grey one will be in order. Maybe a dark blood red.

Mustard coloured polo neck to match the lining!

ShirleyPhallus · 16/09/2022 09:06

This is gorgeous, I’m rather jealous!

it will go with anything really - dark jeans, polo and boots / denim jeans, white T-shirt and trainers / mini skirt boots and tights / even athleisure wear would look great with it

Basically a coat for all occasions!

Binfire · 16/09/2022 09:36

Yes absolutely gorgeous. It’ll go with most everything too, particularly in the Autumn. It would make me so itchy though!

Westfacing · 16/09/2022 09:42

If you're a scarfy person, a chunky burnt orange one would look nice.

Lovely coat.

coldfeetmama · 16/09/2022 09:56

Beautiful!!!!!

KirstenBlest · 16/09/2022 10:25

Smashing.
Chunky boots, jeans and a big scarf.
Knee length boots, skirt and cowl/polo neck jumper

pictish · 16/09/2022 10:31

Very nice indeed. Too boxy for my shape but great on someone else (you). You can wear this with anything really. Great with scarves, hats, boots.
Dresses and thick tights or jeans and jumpers…smart for work, it’ll do everything.

CoatyWonder · 16/09/2022 11:06

Thank you! I'm glad everyone likes it as with very little money to play with I need a solid coat that's versatile and does the heavy lifting style wise 👌

Beautiful coat! I'm a 70s boho fan so I'd style with earthy colours - browns, tans, creams.

PlacidPenelope · 16/09/2022 12:49

That is a beautiful coat, what a great find and a bargain! As others have said it will go with anything, plus being wool and alpaca it will be warm without being bulky. Have to say I'm rather jealous, I never find things like that perhaps I should employ you as my clothes shopperGrin!

So many options for what you can wear it with you'll never tire of it.

GinasGirl · 16/09/2022 13:07

Nothing to add as I love all of the suggestions above. Just wanted to come on and say what a beautiful find!

LateNightTalking · 16/09/2022 14:30

Oh my goodness, what a gorgeous coat! I think all of the suggestions so far are fab. I just had to comment on what a fab find!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/09/2022 17:34

You could wear lots of things with that.

Tu at Sainsburys has (not on website yet) a sort of greeny silky tie neck (it's the one on far left hand side of page):-

tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/c/women/women-dresses?INITD=PLP-WWNewIn-Dresses - I don't think I'd suit that colour though.

Burnt orange/rust jumpers and skirts and brighter autumn reds would go with it, black, brown etc. You could also do a silk/satin shirt and Zara have this one (probably the wrong shade of green for your coat:-

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/09/2022 17:36

Word of warning OP though - I don't think it'll happen with that coat because it's expensive but I've had cheaper wool coats like this one and they bobble badly. Also watch for snagging the lovely fabric on things. But lovely coat, well done!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/09/2022 17:37

I'm now thinking based on your coat - I bought a lovely bright turquoise designer coat but more proper wool, found it in the attic the other day, decided to drag it down and keep and not Ebay!

CoatyWonder · 17/09/2022 00:09

@GonnaGetGoingReturns
Ooooh that turquoise coat sounds statementy, care to share some pics? And you're right that it will require a bit of care. Mums words: "and are you going to look after it?" (I'm 35....)
That's beautiful, that green necktie dress. Unfortunately it's too dressy for me. Believe me I've bought loads of pretty things before but ultimately never get around to wearing them/feel uncomfortable in them! I need stuff that looks/feels lower key if you see what I mean.

Couldn't be bothered to go around the shops today. Will go tomorrow!
