Where to look for decent quality autumn midi dresses?

So far I've tried John Lewis, H&M, Other Stories, Hobbs, Monki, White Stuff, Seasalt, Oliver Bonas, Mango and Zara.

I would like cotton or other decent fabric, not plain black, sleeves at least to the elbow, midi length, plain-ish cut for everyday wear so nothing frilly or fussy (I am pretty much over flounces and puffed sleeves now), but with a less droopy cut than the typical WS or Seasalt offering (e.g. maybe with a slightly more skater cut?). Anyone seen anything that might fit the bill, or am I looking for the holy grail?

Ooh following as I spent hours last night looking for the same thing!

Mint Velvet's new collection looks good so far for dresses. Sugar hill Brighton can often come up with good dresses. Baukjen but top end of high street price wise. And maybe even Warehouse

Manifesto women has some nice ones, but they sell quickly. Which also is good in that the get new stuff daily too

Me&Em, Baukjen, Reiss, Karen Millen?

COS and Arket?

cingolimama · 13/09/2022 08:54

Sosander.

Have you looked at Next because they sell quite a few brands now not just their own stuff

UmbrellaLegs · 13/09/2022 09:49

I see Next also have a link to a Designer Collection now.

Doesn't quite fit your bill but at the weekend I saw one of the shopworkers wearing this dress, so tried it on and because the button loop had come undone got 10% off it - but an absolute bargain for £18 and I got the rust colour one for SIL and thinking of getting same for me. Yes, it's synthetic but dressed up with jacket/jumper over top, opaque tights etc, it'll easily be a transitional autumn/winter/spring piece. And it's surprisingly well made. Had a few compliments so far. I never go in Peacocks either!

They don't do this style now, but a few years ago I got 2 great midi dresses from & other stories - one was called Gamer print (navy with sort of white dashes on it, and the other was green with sort of black and white smudges. Both have 3/4 sleeves and pockets. Occasionally come up on Ebay.

garlicandsapphires · 13/09/2022 09:58

ive been eyeing up these dresses. I reckon I’d get a lot of wear out of them.

Where I also used to get decent wrap midi dresses (Ebay and in stores) was Fenn Weight and Manson. They're wrap but you can easily put a vest under them.

COS and Arket?

I bought this exact same dress approx 5 years ago in Arket, same material and style, now with SIL.

Following with interest as I'm after the same... but even more tricky, I want them to be a bit shorter than midi so I can ride my bike. I love a long dress but experience has told me the current droopy style does not work with spokes 😂

Afterfire · 13/09/2022 10:29

Yours? Some of its very cheap and frumpy but you do get the odd gem. I think it starts from size 16, not sure if that’s of use!

Bellybootcut · 13/09/2022 10:33

Roman are good. You do have to pay £3 to return so order a few then you only have to pay it once. Quality is juice and usually some discount codes available.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 13/09/2022 11:19

I like some on sosander, does anyone know if they are tight over the bust? Have a large bust and dresses can be tricky to find a good fit.
