Do I look fat in this

I am a size 8/10 but i think I do shop at shops where the sizing is generous like seasalt, crew clothing, boden, joules etc. second dress is from outnet and by a designer called rachel zoe. I have always been petite so generally eat whatever I want but now that I am nearly 30, possibly this is not a great idea...

And I don't usually pay much attention to my figure. I focus a lot on makeup (which I love) and that takes 10 minutes everyday so after that and brushing my teeth and putting on contact lens, i just grab a dress, put it on, drag a brush through my hair and zoom out of the door. So I don't actually notice much how my figure looks until I go on holiday and my DH takes photos of me...

No not at all.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2022 13:08

No you don't I just don't think any of the outfits do anything for you at all especially the second dress.

NotLactoseFree · 12/09/2022 13:08

I don't think you look fat. But I do think that if I saw these pictures I would not peg you as a size 8/10 but at least a 12. I suspect it's the styles you're choosing.

BlueThingie · 12/09/2022 13:10

Not remotely fat. However I don’t think that shape of dress is the most flattering on your figure- with biggish boobs, a shapeless dress can make you look bigger than you are. The length of the last one isn’t right on you either.

DameHelena · 12/09/2022 13:12

Agree with the others. Have you tried a dress with a nipped-in waist and flared skirt?

faretheewell · 12/09/2022 13:12

You look neither fat nor willowy and thin in those dresses. They don't show much of your figure. If they had a defined waist, were more body con, showing a slim body or showed collar bones or long slim legs - then people might conclude you were slim. As it is the conclusion is your body just looks of normal proportions as far as it is possible to tell.

mynameiscalypso · 12/09/2022 13:13

You don't look fat at all but I also would have guessed you were more like a 12/14 than an 8/10. I don't think the styles of any of them do you any favours because it looks like you have a cracking figure underneath.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/09/2022 13:14

Defo not fat, but probably not an 8-10 - it’s the dresses. Those dresses are not flattering! Particularly the middle one. Step away from the shapeless look and embrace your waist?

I think i like those dresses because they feel the most comfortable! And I get really bloated before my period- as in i look pregnant. And this was the case even when I was 15 and 37 kg! It usually subsides after my period. so tight clothing looks quite bad at that time of the month.

No bit as others have said o don’t think the dresses do you may favours.

I’d go for v necks and flared skirts.

hopeishere · 12/09/2022 13:16

Do you have big boobs? They can make clothes sort of tent down and hang vertically which is unflattering.

Your shoes are maybe a bit unflattering too.

Like a pp I would have put you as a bigger size.

Froggyeye · 12/09/2022 13:16

I think you look like a size 12. The shorter dresses look better for you than the midi one, it doesnt cut you off well on your calves. You look not fat at all! Really!!

UnagiForLife · 12/09/2022 13:16

You do not look fat but those dresses just hang off you and don’t give you any shape. That style of dress I’d say is a go to staple style for people who want to cover up lumps and bumps so they give the impression that you have a larger figure than you probably actually do underneath.

MsMarch · 12/09/2022 13:18

You need much better tailoring. Those dresses are not flattering on you. V or cowl necks, something more fitted around the waist to ether flaunt it or give you one (I can't tell if you have a defined waist or not, but either way, at size 8/10 you could "create" one) and I'm not sure about length - your legs are shapely but aren't being shown off. I'm just not sure if that's the length of the dresses or the fact that they're not tailored. I think that you'd look good in tailored trousers or a tailored shift dress. Or something fitted on top and then more flared below.

BlueThingie · 12/09/2022 13:19

Nothing wrong with dressing for comfort- I do it too. But if you’re worried about looking bigger than you are, I’d start with dress shape. Nothing says you have to though.

Hoppinggreen · 12/09/2022 13:19

You are not fat but those dresses are not your friend.
If you like them and feel comfy in them great but if you dont feel you look your best in those photos then you could try something a bit more flattering

i am a 32 D (in Victoria secet). I didn't think that was big in this country, maybe big where I come from though... The shoes are really comfy though, like slippers!

I wouldn't have guessed a size 8-10 either so I agree the styles aren't helping you. I'd try and show off your waist a bit when it's not that time of the month. The last picture looks a bit dowdy, I'm sorry

skippy67 · 12/09/2022 13:21

Those dresses are doing nothing for you. I think you need dresses with a bit more shape to them. Also the neckline of the ones in your pics are not flattering you at all. I"d go for v neck.

EllaPaella · 12/09/2022 13:21

Definitely not looking fat. A V neck would suit you a lot better. The length of the dresses aren't particularly flattering with the very flat shoes. Agree with what most of the other posters have said.

NotLactoseFree · 12/09/2022 13:22

Your clothing doesn't have to be tight to be more flattering. Something that fits over the breasts then skims over your stomach might work. Or high waisted trousers with a hip length top, gathered at the top so that it draws attention away from your stomach could work better. Or dresses that are in the sort of floaty style you like, just less material. Possibly maxi dress rather than mini.

Loachworks · 12/09/2022 13:23

I'm tiny (less than a six) but even I'd look a 12 plus in those dresses because they look like you're hiding your shape, even if you don't need to. You either accept that for comfort or wear more fitted clothing to show your size and shape.

blueberrymojito · 12/09/2022 13:24

You're not fat at all, if I had to guess I'd say you were a size 12. I don't think the dresses are particularly flattering though and I do think a good pair of shoes can really enhance an outfit and your silhouette.

I don't actually really need or want to appear thin etc. I just often read threads on mumsnet where they say fat women get treated differently. I don't really want that though of course I know that it is wrong to treat people differently based on their size, but often the world isn't fair. logically, as long as you are happy and healthy, it shouldn't matter.

I wouldn’t say fat, but sort of ‘dumpy’. It’s almost certainly the dresses, they’re shapeless on you and make your arms and legs look shorter and wider, whilst also making it look like you’re trying to hide your stomach.
