Do I look fat in this

I am a size 8/10 but i think I do shop at shops where the sizing is generous like seasalt, crew clothing, boden, joules etc. second dress is from outnet and by a designer called rachel zoe. I have always been petite so generally eat whatever I want but now that I am nearly 30, possibly this is not a great idea...

And I don't usually pay much attention to my figure. I focus a lot on makeup (which I love) and that takes 10 minutes everyday so after that and brushing my teeth and putting on contact lens, i just grab a dress, put it on, drag a brush through my hair and zoom out of the door. So I don't actually notice much how my figure looks until I go on holiday and my DH takes photos of me...

Definitely not fat, a healthy weight I'd say. Although I don't think the dresses are the most flattering, they drown you a little bit but I can see they'd be super comfy! I think something v neck and more fitted, maybe brighter colours, would make the most of your figure: www.nobodyschild.com/outlet/lenzingtm-ecoverotm-red-and-white-alexa-mini-dress.html

i did have some dresses like that which I bought. but i hardly wear them so many of them went to the charity shop...

You don't look fat. Looking at your pictures and assuming average height I would not have put you at a size 8/10. However, since reading you are only 5ft tall then that explains it. At 5ft, I think a size 6ish would count as petite/slim. You look curvy.

You could be the late Queen in the last picture.

the late queen wasn't fat was she. I mean, considering how much she ate if those articles about her diet are accurate and considering her only exercise was walking dogs and horse riding (plus had 4 kids), her metabolism must have been amazing!

You appear to be well endowed for being so petite so the style and cut of the dresses you are wearing aren’t flattering your figure as they are just hanging and not giving you much shape.
I’d go for something a little more cinched in the waist, Im a 6/8 and wear dresses and skirts with elastic waistbands as I find them more comfortable.
Im also not trying to be mean but the shoes aren’t complimenting your dresses, I’d got for white trainers/converse or flat ankle boots instead if you don’t like wearing heels.

coconotgrove · 12/09/2022 14:09

You’re not fat, but none of the dresses are flattering in their fit. I would also suggest buying a better bra and trying one with a smaller band and a large cup - I am certain this would also help your clothes sit better. The other issue is the length of the dresses you’ve posted pictures of is they’re not hitting you at the most flattering part of your leg - try waisted dresses that hit you at the slimmest part of your calf.

Also, OP, I am Jewish too and just because we do have to observe certain traditions with regards to dressing for shul, it does not mean we have to wear shapeless sacks!

PurpleDaisies · 12/09/2022 14:09

Who told you you’re a 32d? I’d be surprised if that’s right. I’d get measured somewhere like bravissimo.

I got measured by the lady in Victoria Secret.

I'd guess you were a 12-14 from the pictures definitely not fat but I wouldn't call you petit (hard to gauge height from the photos). If you don't mind whether you look small not I wouldn't worry about it but I agree with others I think the dresses look frumpy and quite aging.

I have ankle boots from moshulu but they are more winter wear right?

I also don't like wearing socks if I can help it. I wear tights in winter.

Also can I say HUSBANDS CANT TAKE NICES PHOTOS! 😂
I always look like a potato in any photo my husband takes but I’m really petite!

Soakitup37 · 12/09/2022 14:14

Trying to hide your bust like that is just making you look bigger, lower neck lines and maxi style will actually help.

you really could look and be comfort In much much nicer clothes. Ditto the shoes my goodness please get another pair of shoes that actually go with your outfit not just because they are comfortable. You look like you go from 30 something to 60 something in those pictures. I’m sorry but you do!

FayCarew · 12/09/2022 14:14

It's the angle of the photos. My guess is that your DH is a fair bit taller than you.
You look much taller and slim in the 3rd photo.

To be blunt, you look like you are wearing my mother's wardrobe and she's 75.

I love a Chelsea boot and I wear boots all year round but I do love my comfort as well so I love to throw on a pair of white trainers with my summer dresses.
I would also suggest have a look through pin interest or Google for outfit inspiration, you can still dress conservatively but have some shape to it or add in a bit of your personality too.

i wouldn't mind if it was ageing. three years ago when I was in a swimming pool, the lifeguard told me that I was not allowed to swim alone as I needed to be accompanied by a parent. I told him that I was married and my parents were 8 timezones away and showed him my wedding ring. He looked taken aback.

my face looks young.

You are slim and have a good figure.
I would go to bravissimo or somewhere similar and get measured for a different bra.
Its important to show a contrast between waist and bust in whatever you wear if you are a larger cup size than average. Ensure your bra straps are tight enough.
Its all too easy to look boxy if you don’t do this. So fitted dresses, t shirts with a V neck if possible and a skirt would suit you better. Elongate the area between bust and waist.
Don’t be afraid to show your curves, modestly- if you must!
Good luck- you only need a few tweaks to look sensational.

ScurryfungeMaster · 12/09/2022 14:17

No, not at all. You look great :)

Calphurnia88 · 12/09/2022 14:19

You're not/don't look fat.

But your outfits are frumpy. Then again, I'm not a fan of Seasalt, Joules, Boden, etc.

Agree with this- I find those brands a bit old and I'm in my 40s!

CampRedLeaf · 12/09/2022 14:20

You don't look fat OP.

But looking at the photos you've attached and based on the shops you like, I think you're style isn't particularly flattering for your figure. And is perhaps a bit old fashioned for someone your age.

I'm 42. I think Boden, Fat Face, Joules and Seasalt are for people my mother's age (she's 73 BTW). I would not shop at those places. I tend to shop at New Look most at the moment.

You can still be warm and comfy without looking quite so old fashioned in a pair of jeans, a jumper or sweatshirt with some trainers or boots.

Whatup · 12/09/2022 14:20

Is that exeter cathedral?

Bunce1 · 12/09/2022 14:21

It sounds like from your replies you like the dresses and are unphased by how you appear in them. So what is the problem?

Do you look on trend, cool and young, nope! But you don't seem to mind, which is great, so again what is the issue?

If I were you I would wear-
Cropped wide leg jeans or trousers, a slim fit v- neck t-shirt, smallish tan or navy leather boxy cross body bag and a pair of New Balance trainers in a colour I liked, such as yellow or pink. I would chuck on a trench coat if it was rainy/chilly. Maybe a lilac coloured jumper around my shoulders if it was cold.

Shops
Monki
Zara
Pull and Bear
Warehouse (great for petites)
ASOS

Ladybyrd · 12/09/2022 14:21

I am fat, and those are the kinds of cuts I use to hide my fat bits. As a non-fat person, I would go for different shapes as you have no need for the baggy bits.

No, you don't look fat, but If I was an 8-10 I'd be showing off my figure. I don't need boobs and bottom hanging out, but more synched in waists and figure hugging.

Whatup · 12/09/2022 14:22

Those dresses would be ugly on anyone tbh

AlwaysGinPlease · 12/09/2022 14:22

Not at all! Is that Salisbury Catherdal?
