Do I look fat in this

amifat2022 · 12/09/2022 13:04

I am a size 8/10 but i think I do shop at shops where the sizing is generous like seasalt, crew clothing, boden, joules etc. second dress is from outnet and by a designer called rachel zoe. I have always been petite so generally eat whatever I want but now that I am nearly 30, possibly this is not a great idea...

And I don't usually pay much attention to my figure. I focus a lot on makeup (which I love) and that takes 10 minutes everyday so after that and brushing my teeth and putting on contact lens, i just grab a dress, put it on, drag a brush through my hair and zoom out of the door. So I don't actually notice much how my figure looks until I go on holiday and my DH takes photos of me...

Sorry those clothes aren't doing you any favours makes you look like a size 12 to 14 I would say. I'm sure you have a fantastic figure underneath but these clothes just aren't showing it off in my opinion.

rhowton · 12/09/2022 14:24

Im a size 14, and in those dresses, I look smaller than you. They do nothing for your shape or figure. You're either not a size 8/10, or you are buying all of the wrong clothes.

Whatup · 12/09/2022 14:24

You look absolutely and totally fine. Why do the women in these posts always look a million times better than me.

AbsoluteYawns · 12/09/2022 14:24

Not fat at all OP.

It sounds like from your replies you like the dresses and are unphased by how you appear in them. So what is the problem?

Do you look on trend, cool and young, nope! But you don't seem to mind, which is great, so again what is the issue?

If I were you I would wear-
Cropped wide leg jeans or trousers, a slim fit v- neck t-shirt, smallish tan or navy leather boxy cross body bag and a pair of New Balance trainers in a colour I liked, such as yellow or pink. I would chuck on a trench coat if it was rainy/chilly. Maybe a lilac coloured jumper around my shoulders if it was cold.

Shops
Monki
Zara
Pull and Bear
Warehouse (great for petites)
ASOS

Good suggestions, would also add Mango to the list!

Is that exeter cathedral?

I was about to post the same 😂

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 12/09/2022 14:25

To me you do look fat in the first photo (sorry) and the last dress with the bag it could be a photo of the queen! I think you need to shop in different places and try new styles.

Not at all! Is that Salisbury Catherdal?

exeter.

Not fat at all.

the shapeless dress and comfortable shoes look a bit matronly together, is all

Acorn764 · 12/09/2022 14:28

Hi OP, I love Lottie Drynan on Instagram. She does lots of outfit ideas for bloated days. She tests the best stretchy trousers etc!

GreyTS · 12/09/2022 14:35

Sorry but the shoes are awful, my 99 year old grandma would think them frumpy. I'm not sure what exactly you are asking people but no you aren't a size 8/10, you'd be a 12 or 14 in modern shops like Zara, and while you don't look fat so to speak those dresses are horribly unflattering especially for someone who carries their weight around their middle as you seem to

FayCarew · 12/09/2022 14:35

Whatup · 12/09/2022 14:22

Those dresses would be ugly on anyone tbh

My mum looks nice in one she has that looks like the first dress.

The second dress is not right - the print and colour is a bit frumpy, the open shoulders make your shoulders look plump, the asymetrical hem looks unintentional and the blouson style (if it is that) gives you no waist definition.

i just checked and the first dress is size 10, second dress is size S and third dress is size 8.

You could be the late Queen in the last picture.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

HikingBoots · 12/09/2022 14:38

Sorry OP, these dresses swamp you and do nothing for you at all.
You look like you're a size 14, not an 8/10.
I have the same issue in the wrong clothes.
Try wearing something fitted, with a shoe either with a small heel, or in a paler colour. Those black shoes look too heavy and 'blocky'.

Bunce1 · 12/09/2022 14:40

@amifat2022 did you read my previous message? Any thoughts?

how would i walk around in heels though? I live in London and I don't drive. Need to take the tube to get to work anyway!

No of course you don’t look fat!

But I would guess you as 12/14, so if you want to appear slimmer, more fitted options would be better. I suspect your tummy doesn’t look as bloated as you think.

last picture is the most flattering dress, but a bit of a heel or an ankle boot would be better on your legs as that just under the knee length can be hard if you don’t have gazelle line limbs.

First dress is grand for v casual, beach etc, and it works well on your legs, but it’s hanging off your boobs so is never going to be the most flattering.

Middle dress probably wouldn’t do much for anyone, just too much going on. I would donate if you can.

Thurlow · 12/09/2022 14:43

You seem to be the same height and build as me and whenever I’ve tried dresses without a belt or defined waist I feel really shapeless and frumpy. I am NOT saying you look shapeless or frumpy! just that I don’t think that style of dress does anything for people our height and shape.

When I wear dresses I always make sure they have a belt, as that makes me feel better. But i tend to live in rolled up jeans with a T-shirt or sweater half tucked in, I feel that gives more definition to my shape.

CambsAlways · 12/09/2022 14:43

Sorry love but these dresses do nothing for you, I don’t know how old you are but the last dress makes you look really frumpy , I’d have said you were 12/14 but if you are saying you are an 8/10 then you should wear something that nips you in at the waist, and go for more flattering styles, but if you are happy with these clothes then go for it, no one else’s business but in my opinion, they make you look years older.and much bigger than you are

nannybeach · 12/09/2022 14:43

I also thought second one was of the queen. Photos do put around 3kg or a dress size on you,as does TV. Not fat, but not flattering, shoes too clumpy, dress not long enough, but short sleeves would be better.

i do have clothes from zara and they are size 10! I have a size 6 from mango.

but honestly sizing is all over the place so that doesn't say very much.

I think you are probably too petite to carry off those dresses, it's more the length than anything- midi dresses tend to suit taller people.

Something like this dress (certainly the shape if you don't like the pattern) may suit you more- just a little shorter, emphasising the waist- and you can see how lots of other women look in it on the page.

Twawmyarse · 12/09/2022 14:54

The dresses are frumpy (sorry I hate that word too!)

I suspect if you wore some close fitting, more structured stuff you'd find you're not a size 8/10! Unless it's just the dresses making you look bigger.

That said you have a good figure and nice legs - you're certainly not "big" - you just need some better clothes (but take no notice of me as I generally slob around in running leggings and a faded tshirt!)😂

HikingBoots · 12/09/2022 14:54

how would i walk around in heels though?

I don't mean proper heels. I mean a pair of comfortable ankle boots with a very small heel, like this:
