Wigless Cruella de ville hair

I'm trying to work out if I can somehow colour half of my hair black/dark grey without wrecking it. My hair is bayalage blonde/platinum, just below shoulder length. I don't want to wear a wig. Any suggestions? Would root spray do it d'you think?

Root Spray would work temporarily but actual dye would cover it properly. There's loads of tutorials on YouTube if you wanted to do it yourself. Search for Cruella or Half and Half hair dye.
