How many clothes do we actually need?

I'm currently clearing out my wardrobe and am trying to have as few clothes as possible (I started with an enormous amount but have reduced it significantly). I currently have:
3 raincoats
2 winter coats
2 denim jackets (1 patterned)
5 pairs of trousers (incl jeans)
1 pair of dungarees
4 plain white t shirts
8 tops/ t shirts
4 cardigans
8 jumpers
6 dresses (2 smarter and 4 everyday ones)
I am still wanting to reduce down further (I need the space and it's been good to sell things for bit more money!) and was just wondering what I have too much of
Not sure if it's relevant but I'm a sahm so I don't have to dress for work. Would love to hear of anyone with much less and how they make it work.

I have lots of clothes, however, some I have had for 20 years and they are still in great condition.

30 trousers (jeans, smart, crops etc)
6 skirts
20 dresses (summer, winter, maxi, mini)
45 knitwear (jumpers, cardigans, fleeces, sweatshirts)
100 Tops (T shirts, blouses, summer tops, long sleeved, short sleeved , casual, going out etc)
Shoes 20 pairs (trainers, smart, casual)
Boots 10 pairs
Bags 10
Sportswear (lots)
Coats/jackets 10

I love most of what I have and can always find something to wear for every occasion

I have a small wardrobe based on minimalism and Project 333 principles.

I would say that your edit is great, except for 3 rain coats and an excess of trainers.

I have one denim jacket, one winter coat, and a rain coat. Footwear is two pairs of trainers, welly boots, flat form pumps and Ugg boots which I mainly use as slippers.

I have recently got rid of anything I just wore for work as I have recently retired. While I was at it I have whittled my occasion dresses down to two the ones that I wore to three weddings this year. I've also resisted the urge to replace them as some I have only worn once and one was still unworn. We're going on a cruise next year and I was going to get more but I've decided to take those two dresses and make do with the lovely clothes that I already have. I want clothes that I actually wear a lot in my wardrobe not just occasionally. It's nice to dress up but I find things are going more and more casual.

From reading this I have a er.. pretty edited wardrobe compared to most. I practically live in jeans but only have a few pairs in different colours. Quite a few tops. A few costs/jackets boots trainers and occasion shoes & clothes, It’s my own fault i’m not that into clothes as I don’t see the point most of the time due to feeling crap since weight gain.
