Help please! Holiday in three weeks and I don't have anything to wear :(

Haven't been abroad for close to a decade and just don't have a clue what to buy or wear.

I have some swimming costumes and cover ups and I just hate how everything looks.

I'm a size 16/18, late 30s, not busty, don't mind my legs but want to cover my tummy and arms as much as possible.

I don't really do bright colours and I don't want to take loads with me. I'd love some suggestions for beach wear (same thing in multiple colours would be great) and also some nice stuff for the evening.

And a really cool but comfy pair of sandals. Are the Doc Martens ones comfortable?

TIA - please help me look forward to the holiday rather than fretting about what to wear😫

I have started wearing swimming shorts with a costume, and I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

Beachhorror · 05/09/2022 19:56

That's a great idea - any recommendations on the shorts please? @Sheffieldissunny

I've just checked and the ones I got from mountain warehouse are no longer in stock in anything other then 8, but these ones are still available in size 18. A bit colourful though , sorry www.mountainwarehouse.com/animal-aurora-womens-recycled-boardshorts-p40920.aspx/mixed/

On holiday this year, I noticed a lot of men, women and children swimming with T shirts on. And really, who cares on holiday - nobody knows you, and you'll never see them again. I wouldn't worry about beach/pool. Just find a couple of nice floaty things for evenings.

How about this dress to go over the costume? www.whitestuff.com/womens/dresses/orange-mlt-millie-jersey-dress/

Over sized linen shirts are easy, elegant and great in hot temperatures. Or even poplin ones, I have a great ine from mango.

Arenanewbie · 05/09/2022 20:21

Where are you going and what kind of holiday?

Beachhorror · 05/09/2022 20:46

That White Stuff one is lovely @Sheffieldissunny - may have to try to branch out with orange!
Thanks for other suggestions on shirts @LaCerbiatta but unfortunately the white is OOS.
@Arenanewbie It's a beach holiday in Greece.

I’ve just worn this Boden swimsuit with this Next shirt loads on holiday. The swimsuit is available in plain navy and black too I think.

Fitflop sandals are supposed to be the comfiest - I’ve not tried them though.

It depends on what you are going to do of course and how stylish you are expected to be. I went to beach holiday in Majorca recently. A lot of people were wearing cover ups to the beach mainly darkish and a bit oversized- made it easier to put on and off I suppose. Breakfast - simple shorts and vest/ t shirts, again lots of darker colours probably to survive longer. I would go to White stuff or Fat face for t-shirt and shorts, I think they are on sale now but not sure. I would buy some flip flops or similar to go to the beach, easy to wash them and legs afterwards. I didn’t and it was a lot of faff. There were some at Primark over weekend.
Monsoon has usually nice dresses for the evening or viscose trousers so you’ll need only tops.
In general I was a bit stressed myself but it turned out simpler then I expected. I’ve got a few fitted light t-shirt and regretted it, next time I will go for size up and darker. Just my personal experience.
Tale a nice bag for the evening, it was popular.

Arenanewbie · 05/09/2022 21:51

I’ve meant “take a nice bag”

Beachhorror · 06/09/2022 20:56

Thanks so much. I've bought a few things and feel a lot better!
