Has anyone had a piercing at Maria Tash in London?

I like the idea of getting the earring I actually want to wear in straight away but after Googling for reviews it sounds very hit and miss. Has anyone actually been and either had just styling or piercing and styling?

thank you!

Yes I did at Liberty a few years ago, just a high lobe piercing. I probably could have saved myself some money having it done locally but I did enjoy the experience and was very happy with it. Kevin did mine, you can check him out on Insta - kevinthepiercer.

Thank you! Did you have any issues with healing? I’ve been reading that their system of putting the fancy pieces in straight away can actually hinder healing, it’s better to go with simple titanium studs until it’s healed completely.

It did take a few months to properly heal, and I used a saline spray. I also eventually swapped the earring out to a plain titanium stud as the one I’d chosen did seem to catch in my hair. But I think any piercing would take a while to heal and you’d need to be super careful with it. They gave me an after care sheet and said I could get in touch if I had any issues, I think they also gave me a saline spray too (this was about 5 years ago now). I also had a follow up appt to change the earring stem size once the swelling had reduced. My original piercings were done when I was a teen with a gun which I now know is not the best way! I think if I were to have any more piercings now I’d just use a local reputable piercer and something plain to begin with.

The problem with the fancy pieces is that they can catch in your hair and damage the healing piercing. It will rather depend on where they are. My conch was fine as was the double rook even with fancy ends.

However I had the ends of the two bars in my double snug piercing replaced with pretty ones and regretted it. They caught in my hair frequently whereas it was never a problem with the boring balls. Thinking about one experience at the hairdresser still makes me wince.

You are much better off going for simple piercings as they catch like mad on your hair and clothes if you get anything complex.

Thanks guys. I’m going to stick with my local piercer and maybe just get Etsy versions of the MT earrings at a later date!
