I can afford one new coat this A/W...but which?

What style would you choose?

I already have a biker jacket, light bomber jacket, and a long warm camel wool coat. Plus I have an olive green parka with a hood.

The wool coat is very very warm so only suitable for very frosty days the like of which we sadly see less and less.

I would like something for middling days where it's well above 0 degrees but not light jacket weather.

Would a puffa jacket be too 2021? How about a teddy coat?

ooh are teddy coats still in this year? cool, I bought one last year. I quite like it, it's a bit shapeless though....

just try on a load of coats irl imo and choose the best one for you.

How about a classic trench?

83DanishMum · 02/09/2022 13:30

For some reason trenches really don't suit me. I've tried them on year after year but they're just not right. A bit ageing. (I'm late 30's).

I'm not sure if teddy's are still in but a lot if the high street places are selling them.

A trench! You say they don’t suit you but have you tried different colours?

JumpNWave · 02/09/2022 13:34

Currently pondering the same thing, OP.

Teddy coats are hard to keep from looking tatty. I loved mine when it was new but loathed it by the end of winter. That was 2018, so no idea if they’re still ‘fashionable’ or not.

Agree about trench coats. Awful on me.

I wear my long black puffa year in year out, but they’re quite warm as well. I’d say at least as warm as your good wool coat.

Awaiting ideas!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/09/2022 13:38

Either a sensible raincoat or something bright and fun. I bought a dark green faux fur last year and am really looking forward to wearing it again.

IvorCutler · 02/09/2022 13:38

I’ve just looked at all my favourite shops online and quilted jackets still appear to be in! I’m very happy about this as I have 2 and cannot afford a new coat/jacket this year!

twoandcooplease · 02/09/2022 13:39

What about a body warmer instead?

declutteringmymind · 02/09/2022 13:44

A pea coat?

declutteringmymind · 02/09/2022 13:44

Also have you had a look at the looser trenches?

Milknosugarta · 02/09/2022 13:45

Saw some nice checked shackets in H&M today.

Yes, I've tried them all. Awful sadly.

Yes I've looked at all the trenches.

A sensible raincoat is not my style and would make me feel frumpy.

A pea coat is a possibility.

I guess I'm conscious that I can only get one thing so I want it to go with a lot of outfits and also last into next season so nothing on the wane!

A sensible raincoat is not my style either, but occasionally I find one useful anyway!

How about a lightweight duster coat sort of thing this sort of thing

mumda · 02/09/2022 14:14

Do you need a new coat?

83DanishMum · 02/09/2022 16:35

@mumda yeah that's kinda why I posted! I need something for when it's not too cold but not a warm day.
