Women's traditional suiting for larger women

I need to wear a very traditional suit for work meetings (this sort of thing www.hobbs.com/product/abi-dress-outfit/0122-outfit-campaign-workwear-abi-dress.html#cgid=workwear-clothing-suits-co-ord&is=true&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=0122-outfit-campaign-workwear-abi-dress&pos=2)

I've gained some weight since hitting menopause, especially across my tummy, and this style really isn't working for me any more- I need something a bit looser and that skims more. Can anyone suggest something that looks equally smart but might work better? I really can't go much less smart although a (sleeved) dress without jacket could work.

Thank you.

You don’t say what larger means? By past posters in this group it can be anything from a size 14 up to 28

LaundryBin · 02/09/2022 09:07

Sorry- I’m about a 16 but with a disproportionately big tum.

Does it have to be a plain black or navy dress like a legal situation/dress code.

Jersey or crepe is more flowy. With a jacket on top would be very smart. There are some very smart crepe dresses in marks' but paatterned

Ideally plain but a subtle pattern could work. I'll have a look at M&S, thanks.

@LaundryBin I'm in a similar boat. My go to is a tailored shift dress but can't find them for love nor money unless I want to pay £150 for an unlined one. M&S used to be brilliant but they are all flounces and frills now or hideous prints. And I struggle to find a jacket that doesn't stop at the hip bones - I have long legs in proportion to my body so need a longer style jacket that stops mid-bum. Also suffering the peri menopause midriff expansion Sad

I had a quick google and there are a couple of bespoke companies online which might help? Don't seem too pricey either.

Wrap dresses are the best friend of those with a tummy. Look at high end fabrics and pair with a jacket.
Or wide leg trouser suit with fitted jacket
Straight skirts and straight dresses are not comfy or flattering

I’ve heard good things about winser london miracle dresses, have you tried them? Have jackets too

I have some Winser London dresses and they are so flattering and easy to wear. I like the three quarter sleeves as it makes them smart enough without a jacket.
The plain Bombshell hq dresses are very good too, I have a couple, and a very stylish VP in my company who is busty and plus size was wearing them at a recent conference- one the luxe jersey and cardigan layer and another with the crepe coat. She looked amazing

Thank you, everyone- great ideas.

I will try a Winser London dress- I tried one before and it felt very constricting but perhaps a bigger size might be better (I realise that being a bit constricting is the point 😂). The Hobbs dress might work as well. Will also look for wrap dresses.

Unfortunately I need a few things quite quickly so bespoke is probably out.
