Plus size clothes - but stylish! Does it exist?

wheredidIleavemystyle · 29/08/2022 14:01

I'm a size 24 and really struggling to find shops that stock my size that aren't frumpy.

I can find basics OK, but where should I go to find outfits for days when I want to look a bit more put together / stylish?

Where do other plus-sizers shop? Thanks :)

Phase eight seems to go up to size 26

They have a couple of dresses I like, thanks :)

Do they have sales ever?

Yes, every season. It’s always worth keeping an eye on the site or signing up to the mailing list if there is one.

wheredidIleavemystyle · 29/08/2022 23:07

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - so many!

I've not even made it to the end of the list but right now I need to sleep... more tomorrow...

How did I miss that Fatface does up to 24?! I'd got it in my head that they stopped at 22, no idea why. And I love Fat Face, so thanks!

Boden and White Stuff definitely do stop a 22 though, sadly. I only discover Boden dresses fairly recently and I love them. So easy to wear and lots of styles I liked. But I'm too large now.

I found that depending on style as a 22/24 (more 24 these days) some WhiteStuff and Boden will still fit - I guess it depends where your weight sits though.

www.navabifashion.com/

Navabi house a number of brands… a lot are not to my taste but I can find pieces I like. Their sales have big discounts and they have shoes, lingerie and swimwear. I quite liked this blazer and trousers currently in the sale. They seem to have a lot of occasionwear reduced at the moment too.

My friend buys much of her clothing from QVC ranges and you can definitely see the fact they are designed for the larger body, so clever draping ideas and the weight of the fabric. Might be worth a look at their website and she is often successful on ebay buying the same brands too!

IndigoRoo · 08/09/2022 18:44

I love Universal Standard: all their clothing is available in sizes 00-40 and some pieces come in with a Fit Liberty guarantee where if your size changes within a year, you can return for a different size for free, and they donate your old item to a womens' shelter.

Shipping from the US so may be $$$ (I am in Canada and works out the pricey end of OK for me), but I just really love their concept. They have good sales too.

Room Lytham has lots of one size clothing and some lovely pieces. You have to wade through some not so great thinks on their website but you can pick up lots of more stylish things too.

Fabfatandfortyplus on Instagram is great for inspiration and tips on pulling together a look.

Loz9187 · 08/09/2022 19:03

I shop at boohoo such lovely plus size clothes

dragonDan · 08/09/2022 19:03

Most places do plus size now. River island, Shein, Very, Mango. I think even Primark go up to size 24 now.

Pliudev · 08/09/2022 20:17

Although COS don't do plus sizes, some of their styles are very roomy. If you want to push the boat out Anthropologie do plus sizes and at the opposite end of the price range, Monki go really big. They may not be your style but you can find interesting things sometimes. I have a black cord shirt dress bought in their sale for £30 which is great. Also Gudrun Sjoden have larger sizes and not all their stuff is brightly patterned these days. Good luck!

Pliudev · 08/09/2022 20:26

Ps. If you are tempted by Gudrun Sjoden watch out for the £10 they deduct for returns. I sent back a swimsuit and was quite shocked to have £10 deducted from my refund. But you can use Royal Mail and it's cheaper than their chosen carrier.

fuzzywuzzywombat · 08/09/2022 21:11

I do get quite a bit from next. I'm not well off. I always dress as much in natural fabrics and look for classic cuts. You can do this in the more reasonably priced places like new look. I do allow myself a quirky fashion item once or twice a year. I often think larger figures are judged if you wear something casual as slimmer figures wouldn't be, as if we're fat and lazy. Not nice. I enjoy looking nice, but you just do your own style. A smile in your face goes a long way 😍

BooneyBeautiful · 09/09/2022 00:49

Yours Clothing have some nice clothes for all occasions.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/09/2022 01:02

Seasalt or monsoon if you like Boden, also maybe If Only If for dresses

M and s for jeans and shirts

Mango and Karen Milan for slightly smarter stuff

smart - Honore, the hour

Tu clothing have some good cheap bits

DD0 · 09/09/2022 01:57

In The Style is my go to for sure! Quality can again be patchy but I just check the materials used before ordering and you can usually get a good idea of what it will be like from that. Also lots of sales!

a1poshpaws · 09/09/2022 02:01

If you like quirky, try www.popsyclothing.co.uk/collections/frontpage/products/henny-cottage-hen-print-dress - this midi, and the knee length green fox print are the ones I'm lusting after just now, along with the frog prince, elephants and dinosaurs! (I don't want much lol)

They have pretty florals and sophisticated stripes and some plain colours too, and jumpsuits.

I have several of their dresses, though only 1 round neck as it didn't suit me - you'll know if round or V is your thing. They wash and tumble dry really well, and they feel good on.

I don't wear dresses very often - I'm a mad leggings kind of woman - but I feel confident in these, and they have pockets! For between £38 and £44 what more can you ask?

If you want MUCH quirkier, try carolinadressroom.co.uk/ I love their bats and cherries Peggy full circle dress, I'm not into skulls etc! They do florals and plain colours as well as the far out ones, and like their leggings, you can get ones with hidden pockets - e.g., carolinadressroom.co.uk/products/cdr-tea-dress-cats-on-clouds-1?_pos=30&_sid=2ffbabd87&_ss=r

Hope that helps - have fun!

I haven't heard of Monki, is it reasonable quality ? Thanks.

If you like dresses, Lady V do some nice ones. Sale on at the moment. They go from Size 8-30 in their regular styles and a Size 14-32 in their Voluptuous styles.

BigBrightStarz · 09/09/2022 14:51

@wheredidIleavemystyle I'm plus size too and struggle with finding nice sales that aren't too frumpy, however New Look have some nice outfits as do Yours Clothing which is good quality.

@emerald7 do you have the link for the lady on Instagram, I tried looking her name up but it doesn't come up with anything.
