What is 'on trend' for AW 22?

I used to feel so sure about what was 'on trend' for the coming season when I was a bit younger...

Maybe because I'd read a lot of magazines which I don't do anymore.

I thought I'd find out here - what is on trend for AW22-23?

As in footwear, trouser shapes, dress shapes and lengths, colour palettes?

I know not everyone is interested in what is 'on trend' and that's fine...probably not the thread for you...

PS. Also interested in how people keep on top of trends these days? I look a lot on social media which is good for individuals but it doesn't give me that overall sense of the main trends?

Things I've gathered so far...

  • Obvs skinnies are dead, wide(r) leg is in
  • Bomber jackets
  • I've seen a lot of cowboy boots/cowboy inspired/western block heel boots?

Bright pink, apparently. Not a colour I like!

Bomber jackets.

I saw a something about leather coats, too
..

The 90’s are back… bomber jackets, Wide legs on all bottoms with crop tops. Will look fabulous on the young and skinny but not made for my flabby menopausal tummy 🙄

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 27/08/2022 18:23

Again, with a nod to the 90s and Y2K fashions, I’ve seen a lot of high heeled, block - heeled ankle boots, mainly in black. From memory, this is the only way to stop bootcuts and flares from wicking up puddles and rain during A/W. I suppose this is why I’ve seen a lot of the youth wearing platform Converse with their wide-leg sweat pants this summer.
In shops like H and M, I’ve also seen bodycon type knitted dresses and apple-green is still popular for wide-leg trousers, as it was in the summer. Yes to lots of pink: bright pink tops but also little shoulder bags with short straps which have also gone Y2K with cord and more obviously ‘fabricky’ - bubblegum pink etc in accessories in places like Primark ( also scrunchies and big hair grips: dog clips etc).

Who What Wear is a good site for trend updates.

J0y · 27/08/2022 18:26

big shoulders but they're more slouchy than the 80s ones.

The2Omicronnies · 27/08/2022 18:33

I came on to say bomber jackets too, but see that’s obviously common knowledge 😂 can anyone link a lovely bomber they’ve seen? I’m struggling….

If H&M is anything to go by, lots of lovely chunky neutral knits (beige, greige, mink) are still as popular as ever.

I notice a few ships doing that built in fake shirt under a tank top thing. I like the look myself

Tallulasdancingshoes · 27/08/2022 20:01

I’ve seen in a few places that leopard is the print of the season.

Sheer tops / blouses with wide lapels
bomber jackets
ponte trousers if you are wanting to avoid wide leg jeans
block heels
very loose fit blazers
plum/burgundy, greens and leopard print

white tank tops (ideally ribbed) are probably going to be one of the most 'mainstream' in things though. To be worn under the blazers/bomber jackets etc.

TheOGCCL · 27/08/2022 21:55

Hot pink
Leopard print
Looser fit jeans
Wide leg trousers
’Puddle pants’ (when they are so long they puddle at the feet)
Blazers (still)
Leather clothing
Cowboy boots

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2022 22:04

Bright pink is one of my favourite colours, so glad to hear it might be easier to find!

wheresmymojo · 28/08/2022 08:01

Ah...they have so much to learn about rain and the new style jeans.

The boots I've seen aren't going to save them from what I've seen Grin

Looks like the utility look is still around, lots of khakis, cargo pants, bomber jackets. Lots of block heeled ankle boots too.

youcantry · 28/08/2022 08:10

I find the site WhoWhatWear really useful for following trends etc then adapting to what suits me and i can afford, then Vinted becomes my friend!

wheresmymojo · 28/08/2022 08:12

I've noticed at least two shell suit type jackets...

Are we ready for a full on shell suit revival in the next year or so 🫣

Any ideas on handbags this season? Bit bored of my camera bags but not sure what's next?

EL8888 · 28/08/2022 08:38

@wheresmymojo she’ll suit jackets have been back for a while where l live. God help us! Massive fire and static risk 😂

LaraLei · 28/08/2022 10:37

Mini skirts are back I think. And tweed. Lots of tweed suits and mini skirts.

ShadowoftheFall · 28/08/2022 11:20

Noticed shell suits on the characters in the teen drama Red Rose recently on BBC3
