Ankles.... What to do with my ankles?

So I'm thinking ahead to late autumn when it's too cold (for me) to have my ankles out.

Summer is so simple: dress + sandals!

In the colder months I end up living in dresses and black opaques and ankle boots, or skinny black jeans, and I'm so BORED of both (and also I think it's looking dated after about 8+ years of the same look).

And then you have to figure out the right coat length to go with ...

Basically I'm stuck about the ankle issue: which length or width of trousers / jeans or length of skirt with which boots / shoes / socks ARGH. I just can't figure out what looks "modern" without being too "fashion". I'm pushing 50, tall and slim, not very trend-led or adventurous in terms of dress (I like plain classic colours and clean lines). I like to buy good quality stuff and keep it for ages.

I'd appreciate any links to autumn/winter outfits that can gently nudge me towards a new look please!

If you're thin knee high boots are good

abovedecknotbelow · 26/08/2022 12:34

Dm shoes and ankle grazer straight legs or wider

hippospot · 26/08/2022 12:38

@abovedecknotbelow with socks? What colour? I'm clueless!

Knee high boots? Are they back?

I feel very dated in mine Grin and I live in the sticks

OP, it is very tricky and cold ankles have been the fashion for a few years

.... I wear wide long baggy jeans (with trainers or loafers) or tights dress/skirt with lace up ankle boots

@SimonaRazowska my knee-high boots (riding boot style) have been gathering dust for at least 3 years now but I can't bear to get rid of them!

Tbh, i use nude hold ups. I find that the gap is small enough that you can't really tell (and luckily found a nude shade that is pretty much bang on my skin tone). Very unfashionable. But so are blue ankles.

I wear the sock style boots with crop trousers and black opaque knee highs (you don't see them thankfully!) or with opaque tights and skirts/dresses or bare legs in the evening. I just think it looks neater as they hug your leg.

They come in lighter colours too and patterns, I've got floral and leopard ones, Zara normally sell them too.

There comes a point when bare ankles (even with nude tights) just looks fashion victim-esque . If it’s cold, you need tights or socks and boots!

I never feel my ankles! Likewise my neck. However, my winter shoes require socks, so I always have that weird lag time where it seems to look odd wearing socks. And then of course at the end of the season when it's time to bare ankles again THAT looks odd.
