First office job in AGES - what should I buy?

Starting a new job next week.

In a school office. (Very large secondary. Office work. Not dealing with students in any way.)

Don't want to spend a load but do want to feel comfortable and look nice.

Please wise ones give me some ideas.

I'm short and want to say a size 12 but currently a 14/16 as it's been a gluttonous summer. So want to get a few bits to do me until I'm back in my size 10/12 bits.

Trousers and top
Midi Skirt and top
Dress
Jacket
Cardigan

My school is boiling always. I find most tops too low cut and always look for a higher neckline. I don't think bare shoulders are ok (vest tops either the thick or thin straps) but sleeveless tops are ok (shoulders mostly covered but bare arm). I have slim cut gingham trousers I wear with a a longer blouse and black wide leg for tucked in tops. Plain black and mild animal print patterned midi skirt. Belts. Midi dresses to wear with tights. A blazer left a work to Chuck on over anything.

I avoid anything to floral or twee. Tend to stick to muted tones of black/ white grey/ navy/

One colleague has a 'uniform' of black trousers and Breton tops which she wears every day! Makes it easy but I like mixing it up.

I have black loafers with an orthotic insole which prolongs the life of the shoes massively (might be my flat feet). Also snag tights.

Matalan is good for this.

Congratulations!

Uniqlo has a good selection of workwear. They’re modestly priced and I find most of their clothes last for ages.

If you prefer a ‘frillier’ look the & Other Stories sales are a good bet.

I work in a school office and do a lot of walking around so I stick to flat shoes/loafers.

I wear things like, black tapered trousers and a blouse, dresses/midi skirts etc. Unlike another PP I do love floral so got a few blouses and tops with patterns. Then a few white or coloured shirts. I got a few lovely bits from Vinted when I came back from maternity leave so worth having a browse!

I've been working in a large school for a year. (male).

I'd try and get through the first week or so without buying too much. Ask about the winter. My office is baltic.

I had to go back to suit and tie after over a decade without.

There is more variety over what my female colleagues wear.

Should also I add I'm a teacher not office staff. agree with not buying too much to start with.
