Can you help me find a specific lipstick shade?

I know that the doyennes of Style & Beauty know everything, please would you take pity on a clueless amateur?

My favourite lipstick is getting low, but I can't remember where I got it from. I've tried searching the shade name and looking at pictures online, but haven't found it (yet). The case has no branding on it, the shade label says 'Romance' but the rest is unreadable (except Made in USA).
As is probably obvious I don't frequent nice beauty counters and tend to buy makeup in Superdrug/Boots or supermarkets so it definitely won't be a high-end brand. It is probably at least 3 years old, more likely to be 5 or more.

The case is square(ish), slightly wider at the midpoint. It is a purple-brown kind of colour with a slight shimmer (the case). The metal bit inside is silver. Other than the label on the base, there are no other marks or branding.

Does anyone recognise the brand?

Elizabeth Arden used to do a shade called Romance? Not sure you'd have bought that in Superdrug though?

MistyRock · 24/08/2022 12:03

Can you take a better photo of the gold label so all the writing can be read?

SkalengeckOrSiegbarste · 24/08/2022 12:04

Looks a bit like Boots 17

Orangesandlemons82 · 24/08/2022 12:05

It looks like Rimmel?

Orangesandlemons82 · 24/08/2022 12:08

Actually sorry it's Revlon that make a lipstick called romance

BuenoSucia · 24/08/2022 12:34

Looks like revlon to me.

I think it could be a discontinued Laura Mercier lipstick. If so, then there is one for sale on eBay.

Chrestomanci3 · 24/08/2022 16:49

The Laura Mercier one on ebay looks very similar apart from the writing. My one doesn't have anything on the case, whereas that one looks as if it has the brand name across it.
The colour of the case does remind me of old Rimmel cases, but this doesn't have the R on the lid.

I've tried to take a clearer photo of the label, but even with a magnifying glass I can't make out any more details. Thanks for trying - I think I'd hoped someone would see the case and instantly recognise the brand.

I don't recognise it and I do like my make up. Could it be Almay, Yardley, Outdoor Girl or Cover Girl? No longer available in the UK and stopped being stocked yeas ago. I think maybe it's older than you think. Can you swatch it so we can find a replacement with another brand?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/08/2022 18:16

That typeface is really familiar but I dont know why. Could it be Max Factor?

Laura Mercier HQ is in Houston, so that part checks out!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/08/2022 18:33

Sorry, have cross posted with @Ishu

It is! Look at this review. The shape and sticker at the bottom are exactly the same. Both made in Houston too. 😊

The drugstore/supermarket was a red herring as Laura Mercier is high end! 😂

This one?

Yes. I used Google Lens search and that was one of the results. I thought it was a good match 🙂

Chrestomanci3 · 24/08/2022 18:54

Well, the label does look the same. I promise the supermarket thing was not a red herring. If it is the Laura Mercier one (and it does seem like it), then it is probably closer to 10 years old (so much for the 6 month shelf life). I think in my adult life, the entirety of my non-high street lipstick total is 1 lipstick for my wedding (20+ years ago, cannot remember the brand but it was in a silver case), a House of Colour lipstick, and evidently this one (which now I think about it, I took a trip to John Lewis in the hope of trying to colour match my wedding lipstick).
Thank you everyone!

Oooh, yes please MistyRock! 😊£14 on the ebay one can't really be justified at the moment. I had a look at lipcolourmatch.com but it didn't recognise it in the dupes (and goodness knows what the hex value is?).
