Knitwear that isn't itchy

I'm not sure if it's me, the other I buy or how I wash them but I've never really been able to wear knitwear as I find it unbearably itchy 😣which is frustrating as chunky knitted cardigans and jumpers really suit me. I'm starting to but my autumn winter wardrobe (try to use vinted for the environment and my purse hence thinking about it now)
What am I doing wrong? Are there any particular brands/ things I should be looking out for that won't make my skin go crazy?

Look out for 100% lamb’s wool or Merino wool. 100% Cashmere if you can afford it. Paul James is a good brand to try.

Long sleeve cotton tops underneath are a big help. Cheap wool is itchy. Non wool doesn’t really keep you warm. If the neckline is a bit uncomfortable, wear a soft cotton type scarf and tuck it against your skin at the edge of the neck of the jumper.

Cashmere. I can also wear extra fine merino from Uniqlo. Other than that a cotton/silk/tee/polo under.

I agree, merino is wonderful, as is cashmere. I wear merino base-layers when skiing or in extreme cold, and even against bare skin it never irritates.

For me it’s any kind of wool - I can’t wear anything with even a small percentage like 5% wool. Look at the labels of things that you try on and find itchy, to see if it’s a particular fabric. I wear cotton, polyester or viscose (and it does keep me warm). I tend to avoid acrylic as well as that can also be quite itchy.

I can't wear any wool, Merino or not.
Cashmere is fine, plus silk & cotton are non-irritating too.
Some cheap cashmere is adulterated with other fibres & can still itch unfortunately.

As others said, I also can't wear anything with even the tiniest percentage of wool content.
