Help. Looking for a swimming costume for a holiday abroad. I'm a size 20 and my worst bit is the overhang on my stomach after 3 kids.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I actually wear my maternity swim suit and it’s now kind of ruffled along the stomach area where the bump is supposed to go and it massively disguises the stomach! Might be worth looking into?

I was in a Next the other day and saw they had quite a lot of size 18, 20...some have tummy control - might be worth a look on their website. FYI they might come up big - I bought a costume in a size down from my usual.

Tankinis are your friend. Look in regatta. A couple have a bit of ruching on the sides which looks better plus short style bottoms work well too.

Afterfire · 11/08/2022 07:49

Yours, Next and Marks and Spencer’s generally have the best choice with a good fit for those size 16 plus.

Ended up with a plain black one from Matalan with a cross over top and ruched waist Size 18. Be warned though I tried on about 30. I found it quite difficult but I think I have an awkward body.

Also end of the season so quite a few stores have dwindling stock.

Also cupshe online is THE place for swimsuits I've browsed but not bought. Tankinis are a bit dated now in my opinion. Look for ruched waist so it can acclimated a bigger mid section and adjustable straps. I used to dislike swim skirt ones but a few people had them in holiday and they looked great.

Alternatively a bikini with high waist briefs and a longline top.

Lots of raving online about the Boden ones if you feel like splashing out.

"Women's Wrap Front Tunic Slender Swimsuit, Pattern | Lands' End" www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Wrap_Front_Tunic_Slender_Swimsuit%2C_Pattern/pp/P_40069.html?cgid=11342&dwvar_P__40069_color=QYQ

These are flattering. And they have a little skirt in the front, but not at the back, so they don't float up around you when you swim.

OP, I'm a size 20 and bought this amzn.eu/d/hZC4Vh2
Hides my stomach and the tops of my thighs. I actually felt alright in it which is rare for me and swimwear.

They are really not, I just find my self worrying about covering about my stomach the whole time

Swim dress with underwired support in cups?

Divebar2021 · 11/08/2022 10:14

Be careful with Cupshe because you have to pay to return. You can find some of their styles on Amazon though. Im a size 18 and bought 3 swimsuits…. One was Evans, one from Next ( no bust support though) and one from Summersalt which was great but pricey. I found some ok ones on Amazon too but a lot have very shallow cups so are no good if you have big boobs. My other issue is a lot of styles have insufficient coverage on the bum for me…I’m not comfortable with Brazilian cut anything and they are all the rage.

Divebar2021 · 11/08/2022 10:16

PS. There’s no universally flattering style… different body types look better in different shapes… leg heights etc etc.

TAmum123 · 11/08/2022 10:29

I have a swim dress from Next - covers all the bits I am uncomfortable with - comes in several different patterns.

Definitely get a full swim suit with tummy control. I put mine on (I think it’s M&S) for the first time in ages this week, and actually I was shocked how much better my overhand looked in it than usual, I might start wearing it more often 😂.
I did try on boy-shorts style bikini bottoms, which also have ruching etc and tummy control, and honestly I looked so much bigger in them than in a normal style swim suit.

theDudesmummy · 11/08/2022 10:51

If you look at the Lands End US site there are more tummy control swimsuit options there. Some are very good for large boobs (the "DD" ones). They are not cheap but are excellent quality (remember that US sizes are different though).

Norachance · 11/08/2022 11:06

I bought this one and am amazed at how nice it looks. I'm a size 18 with a big tummy/hips.

I also like a tankini because being big I find that swimsuits are too short in the body so they either ride up or barely cover my chest.

I get high waisted shorts so don't have to worry about belly falling out, or buy mens swimshorts from primark, they do them in every colour so can match to tankini top and usually come with really useful things like zip up pockets.

Fifife · 11/08/2022 11:15

I like shein they do really attractive swimwear that covers you up.

PriamFarrl · 11/08/2022 11:17

I’m a 16 and love my swimming costume from M&S. Its got a little skirt that hides the top of my legs and the front panel holds my stomach in.
