Hair products for ponytails or buns?

Hey all, I am rubbish at putting my hair up and always wondered how other women did it so well! But I've realised they are likely using products!

I don't know if it's wax or gel or whatever, but any recommendations?

My problem is fly aways, bumps and random bits of hair that won't tie up

I've realised recently that hairspray and then smoothing it down before the hairspray dries makes a big difference.
