What's with this trend? Long sleeved, full length knitted dresses during heatwave

I've seen several -mainly 20-30 something women- in (what looked like woollen) knitted full length dresses while it was 40 degrees during the heatwave. Most were very slender. This was in London. Is it a trend?

I felt I was going to combust just looking at them. How can anyone put up with being so uncomfortable for the sake of following a trend?

They might be less uncomfortable than you think. I often find myself wearing long wool dresses in hot weather (sometimes 2!) due to my reenactment hobby and it does breathe very well. (Was glad to be in modern clothes for the heatwave though.)

Oh I love long sleeve, midi fine knit dresses. So comfy and flattering while also looking like I’ve made an effort! Love them. Wouldn’t wear in upwards of 25 degrees though.

I know! I have seen loads. Not sure what makes me more jealous - their slim size or the fact they can wear that material in the heat!!!

I have seen many size 6 and even what looks like size 4 tinies wearing these dresses. Meanwhile I am the size 20 behind them sweating from every pore in a sleeveless top!
