Rough dry skin on back if I only shower?

I’ve had horrid rough dry skin for years - since my early 30s at least (I’m 48), especially the top of my back. If I wear a black top it comes off at the end of the day covered in bits of flakey skin on the inside of the top. Tried moisturisers of many kinds, to little effect and much cost.

I recently had an operation that meant I couldn’t get my lower limbs wet for a few weeks so I took baths exclusively. Hey presto, my skin was baby soft again.

Recovered from op, busy life recommenced, no time for baths, showers only, and in no time at all my skin (especially upper back) is rough and scaly again.

Is this strange? Does anyone else have this? Anyone know why?

Anyway I’m delighted to have found such a simple solution to my problem. Hopefully this might help someone else out there!

I don't get this but I do have baths. Maybe it is because something isn't rinsed off well enough in the shower or your shampoo isn't diluted enough with showering and it irritates the skin on your back. Maybe it is because the dead skin when having a bath gets a good soak and sloughs off more easily when towelling dry.
