If you had my hair

What might you do with it? I mean if it was you.

It is mid blonde now with grown out highlights. Looks a touch darker in pics. It is bra strap length and tied into a long plait at the back here. This is my lazy day or just casual look.

Naturally dries wavy (like this) with some curls but the curls fall out shortly after. A bit fuzzy but I don't mind that. If I sleep in a braid with serum on the lengths it looks fine.

I do get the impression though that it might look scruffy. Is this a lack of confidence or has my brain been addled by twenty years of societies obsessive flat ironing?
In real terms I would rather leave it as is, I prefer low maintenance and only plan to get highlights redone some time in the future if I can be bothered.
I really don't want the hassle of trying to force curls into it, and my hair hates CG, nor do I want a sensible haircut in a straightened glossy style. I do like the beachy, windswept vibe Grin

Leave it alone or change it? Am I deluded thinking this is ok? I don't wish to frighten small children and animals..

Leave it alone. Your hair, wear it how you want. I too have the windswept vibe and feel comfortable with it.

Looks nice how it is! I have thick wavy hair and would love it to float like that

serenedream · 26/07/2022 18:12

Thanks for replying. I spent a long time with ironed hair, gave up a few years ago and chopped it off.

I still can't shake off the impression that i look scruffy, like having given up, which im sure is a bit nuts. It's a bit wild loose, but not bad after braiding and serum. I often straighten it with a drying brush and wonder why I keep bothering. It surely doesn't like the heat.

I like the idea of it 'floating' Grin

I found this wonderful stuff. You don’t need to force curls into your hair with it, I leave mine to dry naturally and it’s never frizzy.

Terrytoweltampon · 26/07/2022 18:22

Your hair is like mine.

Mine is fine but curly. I also don't 'do' curly girl method. I wet it every morning, put gel in it, scrunch it up and diffuse it for a bit to dry it off/scrunch it up a bit.

I get what you mean about it feeling scruffy. I always think straight hair looks neater and more groomed. But I really can't be arsed with straightening it

minipie · 26/07/2022 18:26

It’s not the waves that make it look scruffy IMO, it’s all the wispy bits that aren’t in the plait. I have the same wispy bits albeit mine are straight, and it gives the same slightly scruffy look.

If you want a neat look then you need a style that keeps the wispy bits back too (but that may be a bit severe looking), or have it down so it’s all together iyswim.

Personally however I think it looks lovely as is!

Interesting. Mine straightens quickly and easily, but i think it looks more like straw, unhealthier when flat. And that's odd because if my hair looks healthier natural, it shouldn't look scruffy!
I honestly think we have all been brainwashed into thinking hair with any lift, kink or movement isn't 'groomed'. Grin

I think those 70's Kate Bush do's were very well bloody groomed! It must have taken some work.

I do wonder when wispy bits or tendrils became associated with ungroomed. It must be trend based surely?
A very flat and neat look could easily be described as 'severe', but that would be equally rude. I think fashions always pick and choose their own dichotomy!

Your hair looks lovely. Another vote for leaving it alone, it doesn't look unkempt at all 🙂

I’d say the opposite! In past centuries female hair was supposed to be neatly coiffed or kept under a cap/wimple/headdress - if there were any tendrils they were deliberate and shaped to within an inch of their life. Wispy bits and unstyled tendrils would have been frowned on.

It’s only relatively recently (last 60 years say) that beach hair, bed hair, boho etc have been desirable.

Anyway, as I say, I like the wispy bits! Tendrils, if you prefer 😁
