What would you wear to a black tie work event?

I have a work event coming up. Dress code is black tie. I don't usually have to attend these sorts of things and am feeling a bit clueless.

Please inspire me with links/screenshots.

I feel like for black tie it's nice to go for a dress or outfit that you wouldn't wear in the daytime - so noticeably party like: sequins, satin, chiffon, etc. For work i wouldn't go strapless or very revealing though. Look for a shape/style of dress you like in an evening type fabric?

Have you got any ideas around length / sleeves / colours you do or don't wear?

I'd go for something like these two; pictures found randomly on the web.

I find halter neck or one shoulder dresses the most flattering on my shape.

I offer no advice as I would find an excuse not to go. Hope someone can help.

Ted Baker? www.tedbaker.com/uk/p/Womens/Clothing/Dresses/IVENA-Asymmetric-Knit-Bodice-Dress-With-Satin-Skirt-Dark-Blue/259733-DK-BLUE. You might find a previous season version cheaper.

A midi cocktail dress, black, navy or red. Let the dress do the taking with minimal accessories.

If I had the money and the figure I'd wear something like this:
