very lightweight kaftans/sleeved dresses for dd10

Hi all,

Going to Greece in August, it will be boiling...my daughter has VERY pale skin and burns easily. While she'll be in sleeved swimsuit/rash vest most of the time, I'd love to find a couple of cotton kaftans/beach cover-ups or loose dresses for her to wear too.

Problem is, I'm having a total nightmare trying to find anything suitable. I literally scoured the length of the high street and have looked online - H&M/Boden/Zara/John Lewis etc etc and cannot find ANYTHING that isn't either too heavy or short sleeved (or covered in glittery unicorns etc)

If anyone had any ideas or recommendations of where I might find such a thing I'd appreciate it immensely as I'm really struggling! Thank you so much Flowers

i have a dd10 and you can just buy from the teen or petite ranges at next/monsoon/Zara and h and m have a dedicated teen range whose size xxs is roughly age 10-11 etc. A petite size 6 from next is basically an age 10-12. In fact we bought a size 8 petite kaftan for just this. I’m sick of so call children’s clothes and this has been a revalation! Only go to Zara kids for jeans now as they are excellent.

@MarthanotMarfa - great suggestion, thank you so much! Anyone else have any ideas?

My DD9 has a couple of lightweight long sleeve shirt dresses from h and m like this: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0968514001.html
She also has some long sleeve light oversize shirt dresses from Primark as well although I'm not sure whether they would still be in stock as there are old (hand me downs but still going strong!).

Dishwaterblonde · 26/07/2022 16:09

@noscoobydoodle - thank you. I looked in Primark as I'd found similar for her in the past - seemed to be nothing this year though, grrr. Those H&M dresses are great but I think would be too hot for 36 degree heat maybe...

TK Maxx have kaftans and beachwear, including size 6 - their website is worth a look.
You might find that long cotton shirts work well as cover ups on the beach - I got one at Tesco recently which was thin, and pure cotton, and charity shops/EBay are always worth a trawl. Monsoon is great for beachwear.

Dishwaterblonde · 26/07/2022 16:16

@mrssmiling - thank you! I hadn't thought of TK Maxx and will look. I had thought that monsoon would be great for beachwear too but I was finding their site pretty impossible to navigate! I'll try again x

Depending on when you are going shein may still have some but their delivery takes ages. My size 6 DD got some from there which are great- we are currently in very hot Portugal!

Dishwaterblonde · 26/07/2022 17:39

@Snowdropsarelovely - thank you, yes we'd be out of their delivery time unfortunately - just checked.

But good option for next summer when it would be helpful for women's XS sizing as she'll be a bit bigger (she's quite petite for her age so I'm not sure how well women's even in the smallest sizes would fit currently!)

Had another thought - Benetton. Lots of pure cotton things in the beachwear section - dresses, shirts….worth a browse.

A few big lightweight scarves that she can drape around herself as protection on the beach might be useful….again, TK Maxx is good for those, or charity shops.

Dishwaterblonde · 26/07/2022 17:47

@mrssmiling - they are absolutely perfect, just the type of thing...but I think even the smallest would be too long on her as she's still under 5ft tall unfortunately....xx

NoaNoa sale…any good?

Says it’s ‘airy’…

It’s surprising how few sleeved dresses there are for children - there’s a need for lightweight cotton shift dresses with sleeves! Hope you find something!

One more…wondered if this company did children’s clothing and they have kaftans. Not sure of sizing, but various designs.

@mrssmiling - the noanoa airy dress is gorgeous, and what a discount! 😁
thank you so much for your help xx

if you have an Asian shops nearby see if they have any loose tunics in?

Also have a look on Shein...a lot of it is shipped from UK so will come in time for your holiday

Zalando has a good selection of kids clothes and great filtering on their website.
