Plantur 39 Brown Shampoo - Anything Similar?

superstar63 · 25/07/2022 16:32

I have (had) dark brown hair but now have a lot of grey but its very patchy and looks awful so I have been using the above and it has made the grey lightish brown but looks a bit orangey at times.

I dont want to dye it any more and colour depositing shampoo seems so easy apart from the orangey tones.

I am wondering if there is anything else similar that would give that effect without the orange tones.

I have tried John Frieda Defy Grey but didnt find that did anything at all.

Thanks

Yes there sure is. Leganza colouring conditioner. I get it from Amazon. Great conditioner and 31 dark chocolate is perfect for blending in the grey. Need to wear gloves though it is VERY staining. It takes about 2 weeks to wash out. I leave it on for about 30 mins if I can. But even a quick go whilst I'm in the shower works too.

That looks Very Interesting @NoToLandfill

@NoToLandfill Thanks for this and I have ordered it this morning. I had actually tried Leganza a few years ago but in a lighter shade which also gave me gingery vibes so I think the darker one may be a lot better.

Do you put it on in the shower or paint it on like they do the colour in hairdressers as I am thinking it may not be so messy that way although more "work" i suppose.

I did like how easy the Plantur brown was as it is just a shampoo so no big deal to do it but didnt like the gingery look.

I will update!

Whatever I have time for. Bunging it on in the shower does a bit. But painting it on and leaving it for 30 mins it does seem to stick for more days. Go with a dark one weekly and may remove the need to use perm dye at all.

superstar63 · 26/07/2022 20:17

@NoToLandfill Got it today and did a strand test for 30 mins and looks like a nice colour and even coloured the remaining dyed hair which no other method has made any difference to (apart from actual hair dye) which I am not wanting to do anything permanent any more.

Unfortunately, on opening the bottle it splattered in my face, over the door and wall, managed to clear it up except the wall it permanently splashed but will try bleach to remove it tomorrow.

I may just use it in the shower with gloves to start as it was quite a lot darker than I am now but so far I am happy with it so thank you. Just wondering if it will lather up a bit in the shower otherwise i am going to need loads of it to cover all my shoulder length hair and it will definately show up if i dont get it even!

@superstar63 would you do a before and after photo to see the difference?

NoToLandfill · 27/07/2022 15:20

Hooray for the colour!
Not hooray for the splatter. It is a very strange lid event to be sure.

I open the bottle with fake tan gloves on.

It doesn't lather at all. It is officially a conditioner. So, shampoo, leave shower, dry off, colour on, potter about for half an hour. Back in shower and rinse it out.

I have done olaplex on the ends & the colour on the roots a few times. In an attempt to keep my hair in good condition. And it does work as a good conditioner too

NoToLandfill · 27/07/2022 15:21

Basically treat it like it's perm dye and you can't go wrong.

superstar63 · 27/07/2022 21:11

@NoToLandfill

Thanks for that, I hope to have a go at the weekend.

@Rollerbird Hmm, not sure about a photo as am not very good at selfies/tech etc. but can try!

Looking for ideas too.

i use plantur brown shampoo then was given the conditioner. Which gave a better colour.

I like the ease of in shower use, minimal waiting

superstar63 · 28/07/2022 09:34

@NoToLandfill @Rollerbird @Rummikub Update!

I am going to try and attach a photo of the strand test to show it went from light to dark brown after 30 mins but feel it was a bit too dark for me even though it was my natural colour years ago. Also the test was on the old dyed part of my hair which has never changed with Plantur 30 brown as that only helped with the virgin hair.

I decided to do it slow and gradual by just doing in the shower wearing gloves which ended up stained so glad I did and probably left it on for maybe 5 mins but am pleased with the result. The overall look is darker and the grey bits which had gone gingery with plantur 39 are definately not as gingery.

I must say the idea of painting it on sound like a major job especially if it needs doing every few washes and would much prefer something to do in shower and am thinking i may be able to mix it with shampoo to get it more spreadable and make it more like the plantur 39 shampoo which was so easy even if it dilutes it a bit and has to be done more often but will see how it goes.

For now I am pleased with the colour and have used maybe half of the container on my shoulder length but fine hair

Wow that’s a good colour!

I think mixing in with shampoo sounds like a good idea. So the bottle you got will be enough for two times and it lasts a few washes?

superstar63 · 29/07/2022 17:59

@Rummikub It is supposed to last anywhere between 4 - 8 washes from what `i have read but some people only manage a couple so I suppose it depends on your hair type, how long you leave it on etc.

I only left it on for around 5 mins as I didnt want it to go too dark and I think if I used it as a shampoo it would spread easily and more evenly maybe although it would be more diluted so may have to leave it in longer. It may also last longer. It would then be more like Plantur 39 which is a shampoo but I think it is more pigmented and it also dyed the virgin hair and the dyed hair which Plantur does not do although the virgin hair is darker than the dyed hair but it was before anyway.

Thank you I’ll have a look at the shades later

NoToLandfill · 29/07/2022 21:25

A bottle lasts me ages. I put fake tan gloves on, squirt out a load of the conditioner onto my hands and carefully swipe them over whatever I can see that is grey. And massage it in. Take any off my skin with a facecloth so it doesn't stain. Clip up. Gloves off. Wait 30 mins. Gloves on. Rinse off. Done.
