I’ve got some unsightly thick veins on my lower leg (see photo) and some on my inner thigh. Given they’re so thick are they treatable and what’s involved please?

Have you had varicose veins done?

I have had two done - one in each leg - stripped - both done privately . One was about 25 years ago, the other 18 years ago . So pleased that I did ! No problems , have never come back !

Had mine stripped privately soon after my last child was born (they appeared quite badly in pregnancy). Surgeon gave me the choice of local or general anaesthetic and I opted for local as I was EBF DS at the time. It hurt so much I nearly passed out! This was nearly a decade ago and I’ve recently noticed a small bumpy vein appearing again in the same leg, but aside from that I’ve been very happy with the results. I no longer have a corporate job with private health insurance though, and am on a very low income, so fuck knows what I’ll do if they come back badly as they weren’t deemed bad enough for an NHS referral even back then 😭

Had them since early twenties . Stripped at 32 and never looked back. Both legs. Painful but worth it

I am 39 and have just had my varicose done on the NHS. I was on the waiting list for 14 months and when it had been 12 months I went to ask about how long more left to wait as it was painful. Consultant saw it
end of July and I was contacted two weeks after to have the procedure done. Can't complain about the hospital experience. They've done laser ablation in the upper part of the leg. Bandage for two days, then a type of tight for 4 weeks. Check up in week 6. Have to take some injections every day for the next seven days. Hoping the whole vein disappears....
