Thought I might look chic and stylish wrapped in a pashmina. Turns out I look like a flood victim huddling in a blanket. Why is this?

Is it because the pashmina is pistachio green? Green is a very good colour on me, but perhaps is not such a great colour on a pashmina.

Is it because I have the figure of a beachball am pregnant?

Is it because I'm not doing it right?

Is it because I have no innate style and should accept that borrowing DP's purple anorack is my zennith when it comes to matters of style?

There are lots of ways to wear/tie them - try lots of different ways with different outfits and you'll soon see how nice they look.

I bought a wrap from M&S this week. It only looks good if I have tightish trousers (skinny jeans or slim bootcut) on so that I look slim underneath if you see what I mean. Like the smock tops really I think you need your legs to look long and slim....

Don't wrap it round your shoulders. Do the funky pashmina tie round your neck and you will look grrrrrreat!

I find it strikes when I think I look all cute and cuddly in my leisurewear and bedsocks and glasses, a la Cameron Diaz in The Holiday.

Then I catch sight of my reflection in the kitchen window and realise I look more like a short sighted, depressed sofa.

Well, my very tall, very slim, beautiful, stylish friend who has never had babies and tends not to have yogurt smears on her expensive, designer clothes - she sort of flings one end across her chest and behind her over one shoulder, and then scoops up the other end around her arm and flings that over the other shoulder and it looks brilliant.

I can't work out what I'm doing differently.

my lovely dh gave me a lush, v.expensive pashmina from libertys several years ago, i'm not fat, pregnant, particularly ugly but i still look like a balkan refugee in it

no amount of draping, flicking, rolling or general swishing has ever made it look good on me

I bought myself a pashmina in the airport prior to honeymoon in a sort of 'burnt orange' colour. That'll prevent the old sunburn, I thought. I wasn't aware that pashminas come in various sizes - this one was mahoosive and I spent most of my honeymoon being mistaken for a Tibetan monk!

i think to be elegant with the draping shawl thingy you need to be slim or tall or pref. both.

wear as scarf as Mink describes

other way (thus like your mate) only really works over evening dresses or summer-wedding-wear unless v tall and svelte and wearing something fitted.

i don't know- but i do too.i also look like i'm wearing a lab coat when i try on a mac of any kind.
i tried a coat on in Monsoon recently and the assistant said i looked like a feckin chemist
