What do you wear to travel in?

Going on holiday abroad in a couple of weeks & can’t decide what to wear. I don’t know whether to go in a long t-shirt dress & a cardigan or in harem trousers & a t-shirt with a cardigan. I want to be comfortable but want to make sure I’m in suitable clothing as weather is going to be hot when we arrive.

Just wondered what people wear?

It depends where were going but either tailored shorts with a vest or tshirt or cropped linen trousers with a vest or tshirt. You can always take a jacket with you if it’s chilly when you set off but you should be fine without it in the summer.
We always go away for the New Year which means extra hand luggage so we can change out of our winter clothes before landing.

If I'm travelling by plane,I wear what would be safest in a crash - i.e. reasonably close fitting, robust, natural fibres that fully cover the body and leather trainers.

Go the whole hog and wear a parachute 😂

T-shirt dress, shorts, big scarf blanket thing

mac1974 · 24/07/2022 16:23

I've been thinking about this myself recently. We are off to Spain in 2 weeks. I have a light weight jumpsuit I'm thinking of wearing. Can take a cardigan in my bag but should be cool enough for when we get off the plane.

Prettypussy · 24/07/2022 16:37

If I know it's going to be hot when I arrive I always go for lightweight floaty trousers and a vest or t-shirt, sandals and a lightweight cardigan for the flight as the air-con is usually quite cool. I don't wear anything black, tight fitting or anything that creases badly. I don't like wearing dresses because I don't like the feeling of thighs rubbing together or bare legs because I always feel cold on the aircraft.

Gosh, are you always so optimistic?

See, this would never be a consideration for me. Much more likely to have a crash travelling in a car or a bus and I don't dress for accidents then...

Oh love this thread
I’m about to travel from a freezing country first thing in the morning
then arrive in a v v hot one at the hottest part of the day
no clue what to wear

if the temperature isn’t too much of an issue I think layers and comfort is my primary goal! And ideally something with pockets
id normally go for like a yoga type legging
oversized tee
and 2 jackets - like a Hoody and a denim jacket

Topseyt123 · 24/07/2022 16:45

Shorts, t-shirt, sandals and a cardigan for me. I will stuff said cardigan into my hand luggage when we arrive at the destination.

Wide leg trousers, vest top and denim jacket as I get cold on plans and my birkies

mscynical · 24/07/2022 17:18

Don't wear shorts. Made that mistake recently. Back of legs stuck to horrible plastic seats is not nice. Never again.

SheWoreYellow · 24/07/2022 17:20

Going from cold to hot, I wear

linen trousers
vest top
tshirt
hoodie
trainers

and change into sandals before landing

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/07/2022 17:23

Second for linen trousers
tshirt/top
thin cardi
trainers

We usually book very early flights so we get the benefit of a full first day and it’s usually chilly at 4 when we leave for the airport. I tend to fly in leggings, a vest top and a jumper (handy on flights to use as a pillow or if it gets cold) and then while we’re waiting for our luggage, I’ll change into shorts which I keep in my hand luggage.

I usually also pack a bikini and a cover up in my hand luggage just in case our room isn’t ready so I can go straight from the transfer to the pool.

EmmaStone · 24/07/2022 17:35

I tend to travel in warmer clothes (jeans, a T and a sweatshirt, and my trainers), and then will pack in my hand luggage if I think I'm going to want to change when I get there - quick toilet change before passport control and I'm set.

The jeans etc means I'm wearing my bulkiest clothes (which I may want for cooler evenings, or for my holiday runs), leaving more packing space.

Lunificent · 24/07/2022 17:39

My only tip is to wear your jacket and your heaviest shoes so you don’t have to pack them.

Thestoppedfan · 24/07/2022 17:43

I wear a baggy t shirt, leggings and a hoodie and I keep a pair of shorts in my bag. I nip to the loo and change into them before landing. I wear flip flops too but keep a pair of fluffy socks in my bag for the flight.

KatieBenz · 24/07/2022 18:02

Loose fitting trousers, boden double layered vest top ( so I can whip my bra off as soon as the seatbelt light goes off), linen cardigan or jumper and a large cashmere scarf. The scarf doubles up as a cushion, blanket or shawl. I always wear my heaviest shoes to the airport, but also take a pair of fold up ballerina’s (for trips to the loo and running for the departure gate!) and fluffy socks ( for the flight) in my hand luggage. Always take a bikini, cover-up and light- weight dress in my hand luggage in case the hold luggage goes missing.

Tinks15 · 24/07/2022 19:35

Thank you for all your replies. Loose comfy trousers are popular. I think I’ll probably go with that. I did forget about my denim jacket though so must remember that!

I always wear a midi length t shirt dress with either a linen shirt, cardigan or denim jacket depending on time of year
