Feeling frumpy, how to dress bigger body

In my early 40s, and feel like I am struggling to find non-frumpy clothes. I am a size 14-16, with a wobbly tum and large hips and bum (very pear shaped). Struggling to find outfits that suit my shape - every time I see photos of myself I seem to just look fit and like my clothes are too baggy.

I used to love wearing dresses in my 20s and early 30s, but since having DS (now 3), I have struggled to find ones that suit diving around after a kid without showing the world my knickers.

If you are a pear-shaped midsize, what are your favourite brands, outfits, etc.?

Check out popsy, very flattering dresses on curvy shapes. Lots of lovely prints.

One thing I have learnt by my late 40's is to avoid small floral prints. What use to look cute now looks frumpy! I use to wear small floral prints with my jeans a lot but now they just age me by around 20 years!

@Ganymedemoon ooh yes, I had a really similar thing - I used to LOVE ditsy floral tea dresses in my 20s and 30s, but they look sooo different on me now! Thanks for the recommendation, will check out Popsy.

Gorgeous! And they do many different shapes to suit all kinds of figures. And compared to some companies very good value.

Have a look at Thought. I've rediscovered dresses again and really like theirs.

I find their stuff very easy to wear, nicely cut and usually decent fabrics. I'm wearing a lovely loosely cut, short sleeved cotton dress today and it's perfect for this heat. The jumpsuits are nice too :)

People tree are good too - and both do good sales.

I got a great dress from Next - black smocking material at the top and cotton dress. It really suits and makes me look like a have a waist.

Have you looked at M&S there's lots of nice dresses on their website at the moment. I'm a similar size and also dashing round after DC and love their dresses, also find they wash well too. The sale is due to start this Thursday I think so maybe hang on a few days..

Having watched quite a lot of Trinny videos, even if you are a bit self conscious of your stomach she says it's better to wear things tucked in or with a belt to give some definition. Firstly no one is looking down at your stomach like you are, they are looking at you. Secondly, baggy fabric attempting to hide problem areas just makes you look bigger and as you say 'frumpier'. I think the trick is to highlight the narrower parts of the body, which are normally the ankles, wrists and waist (not stomach), actual waist.
