I bought my husband a family photo shoot for his birthday from our 3 yr old, since then I’ve had our 2nd son who is now 10 weeks old. The photo shoot is in a couple of weeks and it’s suddenly occurred to me I’m going to be in it 😩 not my sort of thing but will mean a lot to DH. I’ve put on 3 stone whilst pregnant, managed to lose 1 stone and still going but honestly to my eyes I look horrible and none of my clothes fit me. What on earth should I wear? I’m not good at dressing myself at the best of times! Please give me some ideas 🙏
I’m 5’4” size 16 ish atm, very dark hair, very pale skin. Thinking it will be casual type stuff but nice rather than formal. Probably will be outside think in our garden type thing.
please help me I’m clueless! I look so frumpy.

A loose summer dress - there are lots about

But if you in the process of going down to your pre birth weight could you not just delay it?

Depends what body shape you are. Are you too heavy or pear shaped? If you go on line you can have a look at the most flattering clothes for whichever shape you fall under. Can make a huge difference

Im
not actually sure I’ll have a look at body shapes now

Apologies if you've already thought of this but don't wear white or a pale colour, especially if you are pale. Also avoid black as you may look washed out.

We had photo shoots when our children were young, my favourites are one of us all lying down on our fronts and one of us sitting. We have a lovely one of DH throwing DS up in the air. What I'm trying to say is don't assume the best shots will be full body. The shots should be 'active'

Play to your strengths - what looks good on you? Wide neckline, box neckline, dress? Wear something you like and feel comfortable in, don't wear something that is a bit tight and you are comfortable in. Lastly we didn't 'dress up' for ours, just went casual. Be yourself and try not to think 'I won't like these photos because I'm overweight' most importantly you are still you and your DS's mum.

I’m a triangle body shape

Thanks that’s actually really good advice about maybe having us all laying down or different angles and stuff, thanks that’s good. I think I’m going to have to buy something, all I have at the moment that fits is leggings, a pair of jeggings and some plain t shirts. I honestly look like shit. Keep
thinking what must people think when I drop DS off at nursery.

Do you know what the backdrop will look like? Worth considering in terms of colours

LittleMG · 14/07/2022 20:55

I’d rather not put it off as DH would like it outside and we would like the nice weather.

Plain outfits are best - patterns and stripes can come out funny in photos. Also consider what colours the rest of the family are wearing so you don't clash or are too matchy-matchy !

Don't wear fake tan on your face or you might look too dark compared to the rest of your family (happened to my friend!)

I've had a couple of family photoshoots done and we were mostly sitting on the ground or lying down with the kids.

That’s really helpful, thinking I was going to put the kids in denim dungarees so could do blues for me and DH. Thanks x

Not sure as yet but I’m pushing DH to choose what he wants but we both would like outdoors. I’ve got horses so I’m pushing for it to be at our field. It’s nice atm harvest time etc but he’s being a bit ‘let me make up my mind’ 😅🙄

Does the photographer have a website or Facebook page where you can view similar photoshoots he has done?

maeveiscurious · 14/07/2022 21:28

Try not to be too dated, we had one with the kids in t shirts and it's timeless

Sorry my message was meant to read 'top** heavy not too heavy'

Too heavy I think wider leg trousers are meant to help balance it out. If you're a pear shape (like me) trailered tapered shape trousers are better. V necks are also good. As for summer dresses if you're tall Maxi dresses will be great. X

Astrabees · 15/07/2022 10:05

The horse could be a useful accessory to hide behind if necessary!

TiredInPerpetuity · 15/07/2022 10:08

Maybe a nice summery shirt dress? Look on the monki website, they have lots and they're really well priced. I'm in same position losing baby weight and refuse to spend much in clothes at the moment!
