I’m having a “I hate all my clothes moment”

I haven’t really focused much on my clothes recently. Combination of working from home a lot and just feeling like there is no point as I am late 40s and not feeling very attractive.

i do have some nice clothes but just feeling like they all don’t fit well or just don’t suit me. E.g. currently trying to pack a capsule wardrobe for a trip where it’s going to be cooler then the uk and can’t find anything quite right.

Can anyone relate?

Yes. I didn’t go out tonight because I hated the way I looked in everything I put on. I think it’s because I’ve put on weight.

Notcontent · 14/07/2022 19:48

Oh no - you should have gone out @Imissmoominmama

I've put on weight and am also breastfeeding so need clothes I can feed in and I hated how I looked in everything I owned so I know how you feel I was luckily enough to be able to purchase a couple of tops that's I think are more flattering and that are easy to feed in but I definitely know how you feel

Yes, I can 100% relate.

I just don't know where to start!

BigDayToday · 14/07/2022 19:55

Yes. Weight for me too - I was used to being an effortless size 12 but its crept up. I tried a lovely dress last week and thought I'd found a winner until I turned side-on and saw my arms and posture. I know the answer (and for me, it's not the clothes) but I'm feeling a bit lost about where to start.

Exactly the same here! Trying to work out what looks nice enough to take on holiday and I have fuck all. Ordered lots of dresses that all look shit. Bloody peri menopausal weight gain. Always been a slim size 8 who could wear anything and it's getting me down. Must. Step. Away. From the doughnuts.

For me it’s not weight but just feeling a bit old and feeling like the clothes I have are not helping and making me feel frumpy.

Same here. I look awful in all my clothes. Some due to weight gain and some just general frumpiness.

I think it’s always difficult to pack for a trip where it’s cooler. I think summer dressing is easier, sandals can be pretty failsafe.

You could try out Stitch Fix or Lookiero.

I’m experimenting with wearing slightly looser fit clothes (for example buying a medium when I’m a size 8-10) which feel a bit more modern but it’s a fine line between that and looking like a bag lady.

Hi, yes I can relate. COVID had a lot to do with it as stayed at home so much. Things that helped me were a couple of sessions with John Lewis personal stylist online. Does depend on who you get. First one was fab, second one was a waste of time tbh.
Also I find that if I stick to plainer items, they stand the test of time.
Finally I like to use Pinterest so I can see what I already have in my wardrobe.
