Following my other thread. Is Tiffany a classic brand or is it just a fashion brand/ chavish (can't think of a better word). It's expensive to me but is it classy?

It lost a lot of its exclusivity when everyone started wearing the ‘return to Tiffany’.
Didn’t Kat on Eastenders wear one at one point? It’s everywhere now, even teens are wearing their jewellery, so I don’t think it’s as classy as it was.

In the US its still classy, but not super high end

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/07/2022 22:13

It depends. Tiffany diamond earring classy and beautiful. Tiffany lock heart necklace not as much.

It is a classic brand but its designs cycle in and out of fashion. In general their real gold designs are classics while their silver pieces are trendy.

Thank you

I don't really know anything about fashion or style, but in the little section of the world I live in, the same people wear Tiffany as wear Pandora.

There's a difference between it's fine jewellery (engagement rings, diamond earrings) and their mass market branded stuff.

Is not a fad, I've been wearing Tiffany for 30 years plus and it was beautiful, fine stuff with invisible branding. If you knew you knew!

They've brought out some heavily branded stuff recently which I think is very cheap looking such as the Return to Tiffany range which is almost exclusively worn by teenage girls alongside a Micheal Kors handbag and is in the same price bracket as a Pandora bracelet

That heavily branded stuff just won't last the test of time like the Elsa Peretti stuff or standard fine Tiffany jewellery

The heavily branded stuff has been around for years- I received a “return to Tiffany” key ring for my 21st, nearly three decades ago. But at the time that wasn’t the focus of the business and it wasn’t ubiquitous because the only place you could buy it was in store and there weren’t very many stores.

I also had a bean lighter which might have been Tiffany or else Asprey. Does anyone remember them? Best lighter ever- if only I still smoked.

Not classy. Very basic but if you like it go for it.

That would have 'bean' Tiffany! Elsa Oeretti designs. I have the bean necklace

I've got a RTT key ring too but that's what they were designed as. Then 20 years later on a chunky necklace worn by a teen. Totally devalued the brand.

I remember the time when you could only buy Tiffany in NYC. Then there was one in Bond Street only. Now they are in provincial train stations clutches pearls

Llamasally · 08/07/2022 12:10

@ZenNudist what would you say is classy?

ConfusedParticle · 08/07/2022 12:53

I wouldn't ask what is classy on here, most of the posts will claim everything is common as muck and they would never go near it.

just look in trending topics, there's at least 500 posts a day there about class signifiers Wink

Justrealised · 08/07/2022 13:14

Thanks all, I was looking at knot earrings. So not the return to tiffany type jewellery.

If like a make which will age well and she'll be able to wear in years to vote do nothing fashionable which could go out. I'm limited to what I can spend.
