Has anyone found a shampoo that really protects your colour?

I’m a fading mouse blonde who gets either highlights or lowlights added in at every second cut. But, the colour just doesn’t last. I use a purple shampoo which keeps the brass away. I don’t mind spending a bit more money on a shampoo that would help lock in the colour for at least a few weeks. Any recommendations please?

I have mouse (dirty) blonde hair and have highlights every 10-12 weeks! I use L’Oreal Elvive colour protect shampoo and conditioner (red bottles). Seems to keep my highlights looking pretty good between sessions!

Might the shampoo be stripping the toner away?

I use a Hask Afghan shampoo from Boots. It was recommended by my hairdresser. I love it!

Kittyshopping · 06/07/2022 20:20

Thanks for the suggestions, and I will follow up at my next Boots shopping trip. I shampoo every day which probably does not help….

I put a peg on my nose (joke) and head into Lush and buy a bottle of "Rehab"
shampoo. It's expensive but worth it. Brilliant for my coloured hair and generally a great shampoo.

I have a Percy Reed one that seems quite good. Bit pricey at £20 but it lasts ages now that I hide it from the kids

Blonde Me from my hairdresser seems to work. I think it’s a Schwarzkopf product. I’ve also done pretty well with the OGX one for colour (though the bottle shape is fucking ridiculous and drives me bananas from halfway onwards).

Purple shampoo is ultra clarifying so don’t use it for the first week after you get your hair done. After that week, only use it maybe twice a week or so at the most.
When you’re not using the purple shampoo use a good quality, sulphate free one

I use John Frieda. Have coloured red hair and it fades really quickly. Also started washing my hair every other day instead of every day and I have a mask from the hairdressers with red dye in it that I use once a week.

Has anyone found a shampoo that really protects your colour?

And last time I had it coloured I didn't wash my hair until the third day. It was super hard as I've washed it every day since I was 13 but I managed it

L'Oréal elvive colour protect. My hairdresser always says how well colour holds when I go get mine cut. It's not ridiculously expensive either

Kittyshopping · 08/07/2022 12:25

Thanks all, I have started by buying the L'Oreal colour protect shampoo and conditioner. I wish I could stop washing my hair everyday, but it's a habit that is hard to break!

Just don't wash it one day. You get used to it very quickly

BlueStarfish · 08/07/2022 14:21

Schwarzkopf is a good brand for coloured hair.
