Alternatives to denim jacket to go with a dress

After realising (and then having it confirmed on the recent thread on what is now "out") a lot of my cardigans seem a bit dated, I'm looking for alternatives to wear with casual day dresses.

I have a couple of denim jackets but sometimes they are a bit heavy so need something lighter..

The other day I tried an undone denim shirt with a black dress and trainers which seemed to work. What's everyone else wearing?

Leather jacket. They go with lots of things and are warm - I think! It's what's on my list to invest in.

Try a linen shirt tied at the front. Don’t ditch your denim jacket though, I wouldn’t take too much notice of what people say on here.

I’m also a fan of a white thin knit sweater over the shoulders. Elevates an outfit

The 'what is dated thread' had a lot of posters listing things they didn't like. Feel free to wear a cardigan, if you like it and it does the job.

Lightweight denim jacket, elbow sleeves

I like this Vintage Chore Coat from Superdry, which is like a lightweight denim jacket, but unusual. The "Tan" is a peachy pink & there is also a navy.

I also wear a denim shirt over dresses. Otherwise, a tan suede jacket.

Thanks all, some good ideas here I really like that superdry jacket and hadn't thought of white jumper....

What a minefield.

I think chore jackets are great - I’d like one by Paynter but they’re limited runs and I can’t be bothered with the rush. Army jackets in olive have the same look and crop up at vintage fairs pretty regularly. If you like slouchy then an oversized sweater or cardigan can look really good. ( if Acne Studios are producing them then they’re not out of fashion )

leather jacket definitely but no good if it’s already warm. I personally think denim jackets look dated and if you get the right cards they can look great.

I wear these two constantly and rotate over summer dresses. I wore the cream one today over a really lightweight jumpsuit and gave me just the right of coverage:

Wear what makes you feel comfortable; not what some random poster on here thinks is dated.

I wear a denim blazer over my dresses and I have a couple of other light blazers that I like, too. A well fitting denim jacket never looks unstylish.
