Pearl necklace I can't wear.

I have a standard 18' freshwater pearl necklace.
I want to wear it but no matter what I wear it with it looks so out of place and old fashioned.
It looks wrong with casual gear and too prim when I'm dressed up . I can't seem to layer it with other pieces in a nice way.
I keep reading articles saying pearlcore is the next big thing, is it ?
I'm half heartedly considering shortening it to a choker which I think would be more versatile and modern .
I don't know if I'd regret ' ruining' it . It's on silk and properly knotted.
Should I just put it back in the drawer and wait ?

Ha! Same here. I fear that pearlcore works if you’re dark skinned and 25, which I am neither. Hi have my mother’s incredible Pearl choker that sits in a drawer. The only time o wore it was for the jubilee in a tongue in cheek queen based tribute. (I have so many photos of her at my age wearing it regularly and it totally works; it makes me look like an aged matron)

Ps - you can always re string it back to traditional once you’ve modernised it

I've bought a pearl necklace which is three quarters pearl and one quarter gold chain. So kind of half and half . Could you get it remade into something like that , so it's a bit more modern? I wear mine all the time. I bought mine from September twenty two on Instagram. I bet she could do do it for you.

Have a look around instagram and get it restrung, w gold or silver or semi precious. You can always put it back if you don’t like it.

Would you be able to wrap the necklace around your wrist a couple of times and wear it as a bracelet?
I am telling myself I don't need this bracelet from Tiffany!

I got my slightly too long pearl necklace restrung to choker length and wear it loads now where it used to sit in a drawer unworn. It feels much more modern. You may also be able to get a bracelet and/or a pair of earrings out of the leftovers

Agreeing with posters above - find examples of pearl/beaded jewellery you actually like the look of and contact a jeweller to get it remade. Lots of Etsy sellers use freshwater pearls and take custom requests (eg kateandthecrown.etsy.com) so might be a cheaper option than a more formal jewellers Easy enough to restring in a "classic" style in the future too. I've also got a beautiful string of pearls from 21st birthday (some time ago!) so had been researching this before Covid but your post has reminded me I still haven't done anything about it!
