Brogues - to sock or not to sock?

I have 3 lovely pairs of brogues and I love them but I've barely worn them.
I feel like I don't know how best to pair them with trousers (wide legged east enough) but for more tailored trousers I'm not sure and I end up back in old dress/boots combo.

So, is it no socks with tailored/ankle grazer trousers/jeans which may make me look like I'm following the same current trend as all teenage boys?
OR
Yes to socks as I'm a woman in my 30's who lives in Scotland where it's freezing?

I wear them with footsies (those teeny socks) so it looks like this kind of thing

Invisible socks whenever it's warm enough. I've got good ankles and I'm showing them off while I still can.

Proper socks when it's too cold.

Thanks - appears I need a halfway between the two with small socks then!

with socks.

The answer to your question is weather dependant. If it's cold actual socks. If it's warm then those little invisible socks that usually don't fit properly and end up balled up down the shoe while you spend your day pretending everything's hunky dory and isn't the weather fantactic, but no it isn't because this damn sock doesn't fit properly. You know the ones?

hobbledyhoy · 01/07/2022 17:49

Thanks all, seems the consensus is socks but not visible unless you want to go the whole hog.
I'm now away to buy very small socks which will bunch up at the bottom of my shoes Grin

With tiny little hardly visible socks. Pennys or dunnes. Nothing expensive

I love the look of the orange sock & brogue combo as per Hucklead's photo! But I worry I would come across as mad old bat rather than cool and quirky.

I recently got some good no-show socks that didn't ball up under my feet, from a brand called Hipswan - a random Instagram purchase but they seem good, I'd recommend.

I wear skin coloured tights. Keeps warm and looks bare.

TooBigForMyBoots · 01/07/2022 19:04

When I want to wear socks, but they will be visible, I go all out on the colour and team it with my top so it looks like a style statement rather than my desire to have warm, comfy feet.Grin

Brogues and socks, what a minefield. Who knew?
I've spent most of my day looking at socks on the internet. Productive all round really.
