Does anybody else hate the constant use of the word ubiquitous?

Usually used to describe clothes worn by middle aged women. It really grates on me for some reason. It just sounds really sneery and superior.

Jeez yeah, that word is everywhere.

PurpleDaisies · 30/06/2022 14:12

Absolutely all over the place

picklemewalnuts · 30/06/2022 14:12

It is getting a bit ubiquitous, really.

Viviennemary · 30/06/2022 14:15

I never hear it. I mustn't mix with the right kind of people.

IamNannyPlum · 30/06/2022 14:18

I never hear it used in real life. Only on this board.

Too many phrases annoy me, I just assume people pick them up from fashion articles. Curated ear, a red lip - the fashion singular is annoying. It's only on MN. I can't imagine any of my friends talking about a curated ear.

I don't mind ubiquitous.

Auntieobem · 30/06/2022 14:45

I think I used it on here today - for the first time ever and don't think I've ever used it in real life! I'm not superior at all, so apologise.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 30/06/2022 14:46

It's omnipresent on S&B recently...

Wth is a curated ear?

PedantScorner · 08/07/2022 23:08

I think that people are using it when they mean must-have or something else

FlosCampi · 08/07/2022 23:37

Gosh, Pedant, I would say it's the opposite of must have! It's " everyone has", hence the sneery tone: that look is no longer edgy, it's comformist. Like " the xyz brigade", it's always used in a pejorative way: the ubiquitous Breton; the ubiquitous denim jacket and maxi dress; the once-ubiquitous skinny jean.

PedantScorner · 09/07/2022 11:26

@FlosCampi , don't worry, I know what it means. It's just that I have seen in it in a context where I think the writer thought it meant must have
(something along the lines of "leather belt with the ubiquitous brass buckle" when the majority of leather belts have a non-brass buckle)

PedantScorner · 09/07/2022 11:41

@Frolicinameadow , going by context, I think it means carefully chosen ear jewellery. That or someone who's just had a long oration by the assistant vicar.

I use it on here and I use it in real life. It's a serviceable word.
