Dewy, glowy skin on a pale red-head

DD has her prom next week. She's a white skinned, freckly, flame-haired beauty but we are both shit with make-up. My friend has practiced her eye make-up and done it beautifully. I need to buy her a paler brown shade of pencil to emphasise her eyes (my brown Clinique is too heavy on her) and she is wearing a gold-bronze on her eye lids, mascara etc.

The problem is her skin. She doesn't want heavy foundation as she likes her freckles, but she'd like some dewy-ness/glowiness. She uses a maybelline light reflecting concealer for a little redness around the nose and she has a benefits bronzer (not the dark one) but it seems very flat on her skin.

How do we get that dewy/shimmery glow to her skin without adding colour? She doesn't want to fake tan as it'll look too strange on her (she really is very pale) but she doesn't want to have a flat skin appearance either.

Any ideas of what we can buy?

Do you mean like highlight, the shimmery cream or powder you can wear or a shimmery sort of moisturiser?

MountainMummy95 · 26/06/2022 11:21

Why not a tinted moisturiser rather than a foundation?

Or even just a good moisturizer without the tint?

If she has nice skin and doesnt want her freckles covered, then does she really need make up on her skin at all? A good moisturizer ( after using cleanser and toner) will give her the dewy effect she is looking for without altering the tone or clarity of her skin 😊

If the pi tures work highlighter is the shine on the nose, top of the cheekbones, cupids bow and corner of the eyes.
She wouldnt necessarilly need anything else on her skin

Charlotte tilbury flawless filter, the palest shade and they do a mini one for £13
If too £££ then collection gorgeous glow filter finish
Apply it before any powder products

I’m similar skin tone and look so odd without freckles. I use palest No7 intelligent colour. It looks too dark when you squeeze it out, but is very light glowy cover.

SandyWedges · 26/06/2022 12:10

Something like charlotte tilbury wonder glow?

WelshMoth · 26/06/2022 12:37

Thanks everyone.
Some great suggestions here.

She cleanses and moisturises well, uses The Ordinary range. She could do with drinking more water now (she was rationing herself in the day the last month during her GCSE's so she wouldn't have to keep getting escorted to the loo during her exams!) so upping water may help too.

There's a CT counter in Cardiff -we'll pop in.

Something like nars radiant tinted moisturiser is nice and has pale cool tones. I'd suggest that plus highlighter - my favourite highlighters, as a similarly ghostly person, tend to be either very white looking but shimmery in the pan, or ones with either a pale pink or pale lilac hue. Warm toned ones just look wrong on me. Unfortunately my favourites are by the now discontinued becca

I need blush too, especially if my aim is dewy healthy looking. Without blush I can end up in shiny ghost territory

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/06/2022 12:45

If she wants more coverage then nars also have a new light reflecting foundation which is lovely

I agree with the Charlotte Tilbury, only use it on areas where the light hits, eg cheekbones, bridge of the nose. Or she could dilute it slightly with moisturiser if it is too covering for her.
The Jones Road beauty balms are very sheer, they have a stiff texture like lip balm but can be dabbed onto cheeks, lips or used all over. They do give added glow. I have various colours, if you want to PM me I will put some of each in a little pot and post them to you .

Oh and chocolate brown mascara works best on redheads. Diorshow do a good one, also Clarins and eyeko.

Carrotzen · 26/06/2022 13:27

Does she need coverage? Or just glow?

Iconic do a liquid bronzer in some pale shades that are really nice and they also do a blush that's similar and nice and dewy, works with or without a base. Or glossier blush as well. Then with a little highlight.

Skin wise what about something like nars sheer glow or tinted moisturiser? Or maybe just a dewy primer and concealer if she's got good skin

I'd go into a big boots or John Lewis if you can, visit a few stalls and try out products and see if any give her the right coverage/glow.

I second Charlotte Tilbury flawless filter. My DIL is pale as anything and she wore it on her wedding day, had complements on her skin all day long because it really does just look like no-makeup normal skin with a gorgeous holiday glow

I agree you are looking for a shimmer powder product, swept over cheekbones, under eyebrows and maybe temples. As I think you are saying she doesn't wear/need a base. Bare Minerals are good for this type of thing but all the brands will do something like that, highlighter powder basically.
