What to wear out out with 20 something workmates

When you are 50 and size 18? Please help. Big work night out coming up which is going to involve trendy bars and clubs of the type I haven't been into for a good 20 years when I was 3 sizes smaller and capable of dancing in heels. How do I dress to at least look like I vaguely fit in without seeming like I have taken leave of my senses. I am blonde with milk bottle skin huge boots and post menopausal tummy to add to the fun. And flat shoes/trainers are a must. Budget not huge - maybe £50 -£60 quid. Any ideas would be great as I have no idea where to even start looking.

Have you got some nice, clean, current looking trainers?

Maybe those with a black jumpsuit? Or wide legged jeans/trousers?

criminallyvulgar · 25/06/2022 17:25

I think a new pair of trainers is definitely a good place to start. White? Or is that so last year now? Any brands you recommend? I used to be a strictly Converse person but not sure that's what I am looking for now.

New look had some lovely midi/maxi dresses for under £30.

If this is a work event why is it not tailored to suit a broader range of tastes? It doesn’t seem very fair that you’re having to worry about appearing to be a completely different person.

What would you like as a work evening? Why can’t they all choose that occasionally?

Honestly wear whatever you feel comfortable in, since lockdown most places out and about people tend to dress a lot more casual and I doubt they'll be judging what you're wearing (although appreciate how you feel is the most important thing). Personally I find vans to be the most comfortable shoes ever, but Nike have some nice floral designs at the moment which are so nice.

Long dresses are fashionable if you like them. Could wear with quite a casual jacket or overshirt.

Can easily wear a long dress with trainers, fault shoes or sandals.

Flat!😂

Some black converse and nice midi/knee summer day dress?

ginslinger · 25/06/2022 17:39

I really think you should wear what you feel comfortable in -

knackeredmu · 25/06/2022 17:45

A long maxi or midi dress - look at Vinted for other stories / baujken / hush etc with white trainers and a denim jacket or wide leg trousers - neat top denim jacket trainers and with accessories that you like - both I would say are reasonably in this summer - comfy and something you'd wear over and over

Most importantly relax and have fun - no one cares what people look like these days - it's refreshing!!

Thanks all. Maxi dress and trainers is a good plan. For those who asked about the choice of event - it is a leaving do so we are (happily) doing the leaver's choice of night out. I am actually looking forward to it, it's just that my usual evenings out these days are dinner in a quiet restaurant and home by 11 kind of thing. But I will start the hunt for a maxi dress now and this floral trainers sound interesting. Will have a look. If anyone has seen any suitable maxi dresses suitable for the generously boobed please post a link!
