Hat (and shoe) colour to match this dress

Let me start by saying this picture is the model not me!

I bought this dress which in real life is a very, very pale eau de nil green and I will need a hat to wear with it in the Autumn - I prefer pillbox/birdcage/brimless types.

I’d like to make quite a statement with it (within reason) so keen to avoid something safe like navy. What colour would you recommend? I could go with nude shoes if it’s something that will be hard to match.

For reference I loved Zara Tindall’s hot pink/lilac combo at the Jubilee and wondering whether a deeper grey/green shade might make it pop (I’m blonde)

How about this?

Find a local milliner and get them to dye to match - there are loads of us milliners around! It would be a lovely project and you would get something bespoke and absolutely to your taste,

CheapNcheerful · 22/06/2022 22:57

I have no idea sorry I'm useless with hats as accessories but that dress is so me! Love it 😍

CheapNcheerful · 22/06/2022 22:58

@MrsWonderland Can I ask where the dress is from please?

LunchPoems · 22/06/2022 23:00

Take a look at NJ Millinery They will do one to your spec

LunchPoems · 22/06/2022 23:02

Though I recently bought a headpiece from the place @JustGiveMeTwoMinutes recommended and was pleased with how it looked.

CMOTDibbler · 22/06/2022 23:02

I'd find a local hat hire place or milliner and take the dress and ask them to help you. The milliner I go to hires out all her showroom pieces and helped me find exactly the right hat for outfits and can accessorise them as well to tie in a colour

CMOTDibbler · 22/06/2022 23:04

Oh, and if you are at all able to visit south Worcestershire, I can totally recommend Lisa Von Hallwyl

BellaVida · 22/06/2022 23:16

Beautiful dress. I’m no fashion expert, but I would go for either a disc or firework fascinator of the same base colour with accents of dusky pink, plum or burnt peach for autumn. Maybe single colour pale green or nude shoes. Something like this?

If you find a hat you like made of sinamay (the nylon straw fabric) then you can respray it in the colour of your choice in car paint. I've done several - here's a black one I got from a charity shop which I resprayed Mini metallic teal. Mini & Honda do a very wide range of colours.

Thanks so much for the ideas - especially like the colour combos from @JustGiveMeTwoMinutes and @BellaVida

@CheapNcheerful the dress is satin and from Maje - I actually bought it in Paris but think it's available here.

Take to a local milliner if you have one and they will let you try the dress on with different hats. You can usually hire or buy

thinkfast · 23/06/2022 11:14

How about these shoes OP? And getting a milliner to make something green and gold to compliment?

Those green and gold shoes are the absolute business. Love them with the dress. Very Atonement.

MrsWonderland · 23/06/2022 14:50

@thinkfast beautiful thank you! (Better start saving)

To me, that dress style doesn't really suit a pillbox or fascinator or brimless headpiece; they are better with shorter and more tailored attire.

This dress really calls for a wide brimmed hat.

JustGiveMeTwoMinutes · 24/06/2022 22:19

Those shoes are beautiful!

Lovinglife45 · 24/06/2022 22:22

No idea OP.

I must say I love this dress - stunning.

Which website did you purchase it from?

Chewbecca · 24/06/2022 22:28

Maybe I am off the mark but my first thought was to wear orange with it.

Lindy2 · 24/06/2022 22:39

I'd go for olive green shoes and an olive green wide brimmed hat. The green would be a similar tone to the dress but darker.

To jazz it up I'd have flowers or feathers or some similar decoration in white and gold on the hat.

Robin60 · 24/06/2022 22:46

Have you thought about hiring a hat? I hired a hat for my daughters wedding and she was able to advise on colours that not only suited me but suited my dress. T worth a look and the advice from an expert is always good.

Rainbow Club has very similar shoes in the sale and you can get them dyed any colour you like so could match these at a fraction of the price:
