I love the ciclamino colour. I think your frind wore a similar colour with a black dress and looked fab.

dare I????

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 17:35

ooh,yes ! I should maybe think of something like that with my new black dress, rather than sticking with black opaques - but I was wearing it with brown suede boots, so maybe not...

OP posts:
StillWaters · 15/01/2008 17:38

Oh go on, I will if you will...

I was thinking balck dress with black boots so just a flash of bright pink.

Whaddya think? can only certain people get awy with this?

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 17:39

I think black with a flash of pink would look fab - and I'm sure you can carry it off ! my friend would say definitely go for it !

OP posts:
StillWaters · 15/01/2008 17:44

I will! In fact I'll get several colours while I'm at it.

How about you??? Go on, go on go on, go on, go on, go on, go on!!

Ask your frined for 5 top tips being stylish.

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 19:43

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/01/2008 22:30

here you are - her hot tips !
[[1) Always dresss to suit your personality and body-type regardless of
prevailing fashion trends - however, don't be afraid to experiment/re-assess
now and again.

  1. Completely ignore any bugger who says, "If you haven't worn something for
X months/years, throw it out". If you love something, even if you haven't
got a thing to go with it right now, hang onto it until you do. Could be
next week, next year or next decade ? but eventually it WILL come into its
own. (And don't worry about it going out of fashion. Fashion cycles come
around with alarming rapidity these days. The longer you hang onto a
garment, the more covetably retro it will become).

  2. Take advantage of sales. If you find something that really works, that
you know you'll get tons of wear out of, buy one in every colour that looks
    good.

  3. Never underestimate the power of accessories. They can add a subversive
little twist to boring workwear; make a cheap outfit look posh, and
generally help to express your individuality every bit as much as your
    clothes.

  4. Don't be afraid of colour, especially during the drab winter months. It
will lift your mood - and everybody else's.

StillWaters · 16/01/2008 15:36

Hmmmm intersting.

I think I fail on several of those items:

I hate the sales it's like a jumble sale and always just seems like loads of crap to me. Maybe you need to plan and get thre early to make it worth while??

I actually find it hard to find things to suit my body shape (big boobs/small bum/no waist) so have to shop alot to find those elusive few garments that actually suit me, that makes sale shopping quite hard.

Accessories-I'm never sure with this one I go through stages of being quite adventurous and then start to feel like it looks like I'm trying abit too hard IYSWIM and then reverte to a 'simplistic elegance'(in my mind, just dull probably in everyone else's) I'm never really sure which way to go.

I shall ponder those tips. I actually think that if you want to look good you have to be prepared to put alot of thought and time into it.

Thank your friend Mary Ann, I trust her judgement having seen her style!

Just crashing!! I work in buying and so we purchase a season ahead early and apparantly coloured tights (bright pinks/ purples) are fine but if you really want to be at the forefront of fashion (or just don't dare to do coloured tights!!) then grey tights (charcoal or light grey) are de rigeur! Not very glam for night but a good alternative to black for the day methinks?

Oh and also, a tip is if you're going for pink, make sure it is more purpley than pinky as otherwise you just look like you have fat pink legs (as opposed to wearing tights.. talking from experience!!

StillWaters · 16/01/2008 16:52

Do you think the ciclmino are too pink and would give the sausage effect? I haven't ordered yet so do tell.

I like the violet too lennygrl.

What colour would you reckon would look with brown/beige?

I bought a lovely beige wool miniskirt from Gap and wear it with brown boots, could I add coloured tights to this for a good look?

They haven't got grey have they? Could grey look a bit dowdy?

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/01/2008 17:34

the pink ones you chose are great StillWaters - won't look like sausages ! I absolutely agree with you about accessories - I'm the same exactly !- I do think that less is more, on me anyway...and as for sales and charity shops and especially TK Maxx I just panic - it's all too overwhelming. My friend loves these though and is great a finding the very thing...mind you,she has time to plan and shop - she works but has no dp or children - I'm always needing to get back home for something !!

lennygrrrl - well done - those colours will be fab !
