hello all, having expereinced some seriously horrid stretch marks the last pregnancy I am hoping to avoid any this time. I have read some good things about Clarins treatrment oil but was wondering if anyone had good expereince with it or did any other product do as well/better? opinions welcome!

I've been using Bio Oil (no stretch marks yet at 27 weeks but there is still time, I guess!).

My friend recommended Bodyshop Cocobutter Stick. She was recommended it by her cousin. None of us have stretch marks.

I used Clarins oil throughout my 1st pregnancy and didn't help much! I think it is more down to your skin and lucky genes!

LoveAngel · 15/01/2008 14:11

agree with rosebud.

skippy mine haven't been so bad with pregnancy 2 and definitely didn't get any worse

I've been using Bio Oil about 3 or 4 times a week and have no stretch marks at 36 weeks, although I did get stretch marks from growing too fast in my early teens, so I thought I might be pre-disposed to them. Don't know if that helps...

My stretchmarks appeared at 40 weeks

I had no stertchmarks at all with ds1, ds2 is 5 weeks old now and thought id got away with them with him as well, they appeared at 39 weeks

just coming up to 31 weeks and none as yet, have been using Neal's Yard mothers' massage oil stuff. No idea if it's helping - and still nine weeks to go! - but it smells nice, if nothing else

I used Body Shop shea body butter which was just fab at keeping my stomach, bum, chest etc moisturised. Used it post pregnancy too in order to get skin texture back to normal.

I didn't get any stretch marks but I think genetics plays a big part. Hopefully you'll be lucky.

I used Weleda's pregnancy body oil both during and after my pregnancy and found it fabulous - not a stretch mark in sight (and given that I put on 50% again of my normal body during my pregnancy, I do feel I gave it a good testing!). It absorbs really well and has a nice consistency. You should check you can get on with the smell though. I loved it, but another pregnant friend found it offputting.

Two tips I was given were:

  • to go for a preparation which is oil rather than parafin based (the latter supposedly doesn't penetrate deeply enough into underlying layers of skin);
  • to use the preparation as a general body moisturiser, i.e. oil everything, not just the bump! Breasts can apparently be prone to suddenly developing stretchmarks when the milk comes in.

I personally think that genetics also plays a large part. Having said that though, my mother had lots of stretch marks and I don't have any!

Good luck!

I used clarins oil on bump,bum/thighs and breasts - everywhere really and I didn't get any stretchmarks despite piling on the pounds (4st to be precise!). Don't know if it was the oil or genetics but if I get pregnant again I won't risk not using it!!
