Vegan Birkenstocks , anyone got a pair and any good?

I'm trying not to buy leather shoes . I am looking for comfortable sandals and was thinking of Birkenstock and I've seen they have vegan ones .
I've never had a pair , but due to wanting better shoes to walk about in (not hiking) i'm thinking of getting some.
Looking on the web page it seems quite a few are not leather, but not vegan as leather etc in foot bed. And then there are vegan ones.
So in terms of quality, they have been doing no leather for a long time as far as upper part, but now its the whole sandal.

Its the foot bed though that is the key thing, so i'm wondering if its still as confy .
Also are the sandals as hard wearing.

Anyone got some vegan ones , what are they like and have you had leather/non vegan and how do they compare ?

Thanks

You need to wear them in, around the house , for about two weeks and they become the most comfortable shoes ever. There's currently a good sale on the official websitr

I would also like to know how the vegan ones hold up too OP. I would be glad to make the switch when I next buy some.

I’ve got a pair of the vegan Arizonas. I’ve had them for several years and they still look great - so worn well, definitely feel like they’re good quality.

TwoSatsumas · 19/06/2022 18:13

PS that’s also wearing them several times a week for the summer so they’ve had a lot of wear.

Thanks. So sounds like they wear as well and are as good quality as the non vegan ones.

It is a bit confusing. So some are clear cut not vegan, have a leather or suede upper and suede as part of foot bed.
But then there is this which has birko-flor upper and microfibre footbed. But its not listed as vegan ?
www.birkenstock.com/gb/-birko-flor/arizona-icy-birkoflor-0-eva-u_1857.html

or this one that also seems to be vegan, but not listed as vegan www.birkenstock.com/gb/arizona-eva/arizonaeva-eva-eva-0-eva-u_1929.html#cgid=women-sandals-twostrapsandals&prefn1=sizeName&prefv1=&prefn2=model&prefv2=Arizona&lastfilterset=arizona

The vegan ones www.birkenstock.com/gb/-arizona-birko-flor-nubuck/arizona-veganombre-birkoflornubuck-0-eva-w_1027.html seem to be the same as the non vegan ones with no leather ?

Anyone know what the difference is ?

Thanks

I really like them, they're very soft and have lasted very well for me.

TwoSatsumas · 19/06/2022 20:07

@MoriaRoseForever it could be that the ones not listed as vegan use non-vegan glue or other components. Lots of shoes aren’t leather - especially cheaper shoes - but aren’t vegan, because they use animal based glue. Just a guess though, I don’t know with Birkenstocks, so hopefully someone else might come along with a definitive answer!

I think that is probably it . Interesting as they have quite a few that aren't leather or suede in any part, so presume it would be easy to make them vegan if they used different glue.
Some have non leather uppers, but suede in the footbed.
Its hard to work out all the different combinations! I think going for the vegan simplifies that !

Is that the uppers ? Its good if they are soft as i easily blister with sharp edged sandals, whether leather or vegan.
How do you find the footbed? That seems ti be the key selling point with Birkenstocks, so I wondered if the different composition, removing the suede, has affected it .

I’ve got 2 pairs and live in them, they are so comfy. As pp said you do need to wear them in first.

It’s really annoying when they do that - could so easily make something vegan but it has done small component which is animal based!

I expect they will go back to those and make them totally vegan if all it is is something like glue. If the upper and the footbed is vegan, and they can do vegan , then no advantage to have some with animal based glue . Makes business sense to make those ones totally vegan. The suede footbed or leather upper is something some may want, but no one is going to buy for the glue !

for those that have had suede footbeds, are the vegan ones just s good ? It’s the footbed that makes me want to buy, for comfort and better foot position.

Have ordered some vegan Arizona's . Did look to see if they did soft footbed, as wondered if that was better, but couldn’t see any for the Arizona vegan.

Thnaks for all the advice and I will report back !

I love them!
I have had my pair for over a year now and they still look brand new.
I actually find them better than my leather pairs.

They lasted thru my pregnancy ( I was over 90kg at that point) so I am sure they will last a good while😅
