Anyone planning on buying any of these dresses? I love her bonkers style generally but don't know if I'm brave enough to try any of her dresses.

I don't spend lots on clothes so even £65 on a dress would be a big step for me, and they are too new for me to see them filter through second hand on vented etc.

So I'm hoping to live vicariously through you lot if anyone is planning on buying any - are they any good? Quality/fit etc?

I quite like Joanie, I really dislike her range.

I bought the negroni mini dress and the sunrise kaftan dress. The quality on both is mile better than it looks on the pis. Thick, lined, good quality material.as Joanie normally does.

IM a pear shaped 14 and the negroni is going back. Made for slimmer hips. 14 way too small, 16 big on the arms and bust. Pattern was lovely though.

The sunrise dress is lovely. The kaftan sleeves make it feel quite special. 14 fits nice and pinches in nicely on the waist. Only problem is its £65 bloody quid, I have nothing planned to wear it too, and I would like to lose some chunk. It sold out on the website too I think, so I've got no chance of picking one up in the sale. So, dunno what to do 🤷‍♀️

Keep it!

WhyPaulMemory · 29/06/2022 11:45

I've had a few things from Joanie, not had any problems with the quality. I always wait for a sale/discount though, never paid full price.

I was excited for the collection, but when I saw them... oh dear. Just too full on for me. Bordering on fancy dress. Might work if you are brave and on holiday!

I just ordered the lobster print sundress, I was pretty excited for it but I’m disappointed- the print looks great but it’s not cut for bigger boobs (I’m D cup) and the shoulder straps are too loose, everything else is tight (took my usual 12) but the straps just gape. Will return.

its a shame though, I do think the quality has declined. The dresses I bought from them a few Christmasses back have held up ok though.

Really don’t like anything from the Dawn o porter range.

I ordered that too and found I needed to cross the straps over the back for it to fit right. Ultimately though the waist was bit too high so I sent it back

ArabeI · 29/06/2022 14:43

I think I have a an acrylic cardie from Joanie. It's nice actually. I think some of the fabrics (when I've taken a closer look), on things like skirts, has put me off.

I'm not keen on the Porter/kaftan-style dresses, personally.

NashvilleQueen · 29/06/2022 14:48

Love Joanie and have loads of their stuff. I really disappointed by this collection

LadyEloise1 · 29/06/2022 15:35

I think they look horrendous.
My granny had curtains like those fabrics.
They were horrendous then too Smile

buttonstep · 29/06/2022 15:39

I really like the maxi dresses however I won't be buying them because I hate the way wide angel sleeves show the reverse of the fabric when you lift your arms. It looks cheap and I wish they would line the sleeves for that price

Mollyplop999 · 29/06/2022 15:43

I have never heard of Joanie clothing but just had a look on Vinted and there is lots for sale.

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/06/2022 15:45

I ordered a couple of similar items from Collectif. They just look two like fancy dress on me. I like my dresses to last a few years, I got the feeling next year they'd look dated.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 29/06/2022 15:59

My older sisters wore this kind of thing first time round. And other peoples young mums. The associations are just too strong. Nasty combination of Babycham and swapping parties. Ugh

Bobnotpop · 29/06/2022 18:19

I think they’re Almost good, but somehow missing the mark. I suspect the quality isn’t great, viscose can be hit or miss and they’re quite cheap.

MistyRock · 02/09/2022 16:28

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Joanie are having a special sale on the 1st week of October I have 4 Dawn O'porter dresses in my basket. 😍

Lipsandlashes · 02/09/2022 16:34

I can’t bloody stand Dawn “O’” Porter and unfortunately she seems to be everywhere again

EllaPaella · 02/09/2022 17:59

I'm not keen. I don't think they particularly suit Dawn tbh and I usually think she looks great.

MistyRock · 02/09/2022 18:45

I need to get back to how I used to dress, I love florals and I love the 60s look. I'm going for it. 😊

Saucery · 02/09/2022 18:50

I quite like them, but a Gimlet is Gin and Lime, so why is the dress orange?

NanaNelly · 02/09/2022 18:51

Op, I thought some of the prints were lovely but I did wear the style/prints/patterns first time round many decades ago.

Don’t be so hasty. Order one and make your own mind up about it.

I am going to be hasty as I'm not in the UK. I'll order 3. All short dresses to wear with ankle boots. I cannot wait.

sorry, I should have said, don’t be too quick to decide against them. I knew it didn’t sound right as soon as I posted.

Enjoy your dresses. They’ll look very nice with ankle boots.

I can’t believe this is the second time today I’ve spoken about wearing certain clothes years ago, or the first time they were in fashion. My granddaughters turned up wearing beautiful flared jeans today and I said to them - I’ve worn them each of the 3 times they were in fashion but I don’t think I will this time round.

MistyRock · 03/09/2022 04:21

I do like Joanie stuff. I've had a few of their dresses in the past, what I like is that they are now making more cotton/viscose stuff and moving away from Polyester. I love flared jeans but I'm quite tall so I need to get ones I long leg length which is hard to find so at the moment I'm still in skinnys as its far easier to get away with them if they are slightly too short.

anon2022anon · 03/09/2022 15:34

@MistyRock what's the special sale please?

MistyRock · 03/09/2022 16:37

@anon2022anon I'm not entirely sure, but it's their bithday at the beginning of October and I'm presuming a 25% off type of affair.

Mrsmoobydoo · 24/03/2023 21:54

Love this one, ordered it tonight in the sale (half price)
I've got vitiligo so this will be a perfect coverup for me.
