If you wear Dr Martens what other brands do you like?

I know it's not boots season but I'm browsing. I usually wear a pair of zipped Dr Martens Chelsea Boots but I'm wondering what else is out there with a similar look, similar price is okay so £100-£150 ish.

I've been looking at Fly London, does anyone have any thoughts on those?

Thanks!

Solovair.

Like Docs but much better.

Slightly over your budget at the £180-ish mark though.

Iheartmysmart · 16/06/2022 11:36

I’ve got a few pairs of DMs and also like Solovair which are better quality in my view. I’ve also got a pair of Fly ankle boots which are really comfortable but the weird sole on them squeaks on some surfaces and drives me mad!

evilharpy · 16/06/2022 11:46

I'm a huge fan of All Saints boots but they're more expensive than Docs. Although often have good discounts (like 50%) in the sales.

springingup · 16/06/2022 12:14

Solovair look nice, if maybe a little smart! Could push the budget to those kind of prices though.

Nothing on All Saints takes my fancy right now but will keep in mind and look out of sales. I love that style generally.

Some lush Fly ones with buckles on their website at the moment but have maybe a bit too much of a platform.

I always found Fly boots very leaky and I like my feet dry!

stayathomegardener · 16/06/2022 13:28

Steel Blue Boots, DD is obsessed and was a Dr Martins convert prior.

No more foot pain, great ankle support and they have a side zip.

springingup · 16/06/2022 14:09

@carefullycourageous oh that's annoying. I'd hate that! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@stayathomegardener they look cool but I'm aiming for more of a Chelsea boot style without laces

I have some Kurt Geiger boots that are a little Dr Marten in style, but with slightly more feminine features.

Wallabyone · 16/06/2022 16:33

I have the soft leather DMs and a pair of black leather and suede Grensons which I love...not cheap but they are very comfortable and look great.

KirstenBlest · 16/06/2022 16:35

I got rid of my DMs and got Solovairs instead, very similar in style but better quality, and they do half-sizes

Fly. Mine are 7 years old and still going strong. Red or dead (schuh own) ised to be great but haven’t bought from there for years.

TwoSatsumas · 16/06/2022 17:13

Have you looked at Grenson? They’re pricey, but have amazing sales. They have a sale on at the mo. I got the vegan Nanettes a few years ago for around £150.

I have a pair of Grensons. They are the most beautiful boots I own, I absolutely love the look of them. They are the right size for me and are definitely definitely not too tight, but they make the balls of my feet burn really badly. Like when I used to go clubbing in heels in my early twenties. I've worn them enough to have broken them in but they're still just as miserable after a short period of wearing. I wore them to walk about 25,000 steps round London one day and nearly binned them in a temper.

Can't put a gel insole in them as it does make them too tight.

But I can't part with them Sad

Giggorata · 16/06/2022 23:02

I like Trippen boots and found them surprisingly comfortable, even the heaviest ones.

Ah that’s such a shame @evilharpy! What style do you have? Mine are so comfy, I wear them all winter.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 17/06/2022 00:57

Blundstone. I promise you won't look back.

Snailsaresweet · 17/06/2022 07:29

Timberlands - I love their grippy soles in the winter and find them very comfortable for walking. I tend to buy them in sales - you can usually get some spectacular bargains in Office as they're seen as fashion items, but they really last.

They're Nanettes, the sort of rubberised leather type. The leather itself is really comfortable, no rubbing anywhere etc. It's just the balls of my feet.

I might take them to the cobbler and see if he can suggest anything, he's pretty much a miracle worker.

JoanThursday · 17/06/2022 09:51

Another shout for Solovairs.

I bought some lovely fly boots with zips up the outside. Not waterproof at all: even walking on wet pavements made my feet wet. I've had it happen twice now, so sadly not a one-off.

Pinkdelight3 · 17/06/2022 09:53

Big fan of Fly. Owned numerous pairs of different styles/colours over the years and never had any leaks or issues at all. Old fave are red patent knee-high Flys, but currently got their black three-buckle ankle boots as my staple, which I love.

springingup · 17/06/2022 12:23

Great suggestions everyone! There's actually a lot of choice!!

Well I couldn't break the habit of a lifetime and ordered these. Was swung by the sale price 🙈
